Blackberry 8830 > Motorola Q Instead of just keeping it to myself I have to say how bad the Motorola Q is. It's so slow and glitchy. I was that guy sitting looking at reviews saying "That wont happen to me, it never does, and I'm sure the battery isn't thhhhat bad." Well here I am three days later disliking it very much. Day one issue: The charger that came with the device wouldn't charge the phone while it was on, only when it was off did it charge. Day two issue: This was more of a realization; the device is very laggy and takes a long time to catch up to what I want. The scroll wheel is also very inaccurate when going between contacts or programs. Day three issue: Randomly the phone stopped recieving internet access and wouldn't recieve or send calls, it only allowed me to send txt. I'm sure I missed a few phone calls. I turned it on than off and it works now but sssseriously now. I'm going to purchase the 8830 on thursday and kiss this dumb-phone goodbye. Wish me luck, I'm looking forward to joining the BB community. Oh one more thing, I've been reading a lot about how the 8830 is hard to type on because of the blue backlight keypad but I went to the store today and tried it for about 30 min and did some decent amount of typing and didnt seem to have much affect on my vision, the key spacing was the only minor issue I saw. |
Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) You hit the nail on the coffin of most WM devices, spotty performance. The Q is a nice looking device, unfortunately you can't judge a book by its cover. You will be happy with the switch to the 8830. |
That was similar to my experience with a Blackjack - unreliable with one or more reboots a day. I alread knew that about Windows devices, but was lured in by the size. Well, the Curve has the small size and Large performance! |
That's another thing I did notice, the 8830 is hardly any bigger than the Q when I paired them side by side at the vzw store. |

We just returned my wife's Moto Q after a week. You hit it smack on the head alright. That device was terrible. We just swapped it out for an 8703e like mine, and she's now addicted. LMAO. |
The "buzz" on the Q died very quickly after its initial release....always a good indication that the device simply doesn't deliver. What troubled me most about the Q was that it lacked basic tools like "Cut & Paste" out of the box. Obviously the design team didn't think it through well enough... |
We have 3 users of the Moto Q at work. One has had to get a replacement, and they all report frequent "freezes." They are cool devices, but the unreliability would drive me nuts. My 8703 keeps working while they have to reset almost every day |
