Default Data plan

I am new to the whole Blackberry thing, i just got a pearl yesterday through AT&T. I don't have a need for the blackberry data plans, but i would like to have the ability to check my email. do you all know if i could get the media net plan and beable to check email, or am i out of luck unless i get the blackberry plan? Thanks for your help.

Nope, you must have the BlackBerry Data Plan. Media Net plans don't work over RIM's network.

the unlimited data plan with cingular/ATT is $30/month on top of a voice plan. if you don't have a data plan...there is no point in a blackberry to be honest. seems kind of dumb to have spent the money for a blackberry? why did you buy the blackberry anyways? for the keypad?

no data plan = no BIS = no push email + no browsing = PAPER WEIGHT
