Recently we just upgraded our BES to 4.0.7.8, and since then we have been getting iritated reports that whenever users use the 'reply to all' feature, they also receive a copy of the email to themselves.

This apparently is a very large and unacceptable situation to many of our executives. I have seen at least one other post by another user experiencing the same problem, but I have been unable to find a solution.

Please do not help me out with the 'scroll up and delete your name from the To: field' solution... taking such a solution to them would be akin to telling them to cut themselves with a rusty fork.

Is this a new 'feature' that cannot be turned off, or can anyone point me in a direction that might rectify this behavior?

Thanks!

add a network filter that prevents people from receiving emails from themselves...this will prevent the executive from receiving back and email that he did "reply to all"

that trick works for BIS, not sure about BES but it's worth giving it a try

Thanks.. that seems like it will work. I am attaching the text from the BES help index on how to make a filter, but one thing I am unclear on is how to specify the user as the one you do not want the messages to come from.. I am thinking I need to put some kind of wildcard in the to: field.. can you tell me what syntax you used on your server?

Create a filter
Use global filters to apply filters to users on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server and user filters to apply filters to specific users.

Note: Global filters take precedence over user filters.

In the BlackBerry Manager, click a server.
Perform one of the following actions:
Action
Procedure

Create a global filter for all users.
Right-click a server, and then click BlackBerry Server Properties.
Click Global Filters.

Create a filter for a specific user.
In the User Name list, double-click a user.
Click Filters.

Click New.
Complete the Add Filter screen. See "Set filter options" for more information.
Click OK.
Note: Messages are filtered based on the order in which the filters appear. If the filter that you are adding applies to messages that another filter also applies to, you must decide which filter should be applied first. See "Change a filter" for more information.

just saw your post after i posted one of my own...

I use BIS and never had this issue until this week. I use both a forward to [email address] and a pop g-mail account.

maybe its this a larger recent glitch with BB then your software upgrade??

We submitted a report to RIM directly, but have only been greeted by silence. In the filter I have as of yet found no way to specify with some kind of wildcard that we do not want a user to receive emails from themselves. This is effecting all of our users, and it seems it may be across their service.

Can anyone confirm that they have a blackberry now that when they use the reply to all feature that they do not receive back a copy of their own email? I figured it was a problem with the newest version of our server, but it may be beyond that.
