Post Receiving AOL email

Please Login to Remove!

Having just received a 7520 based on NEXTEL, I was able to decipher most of the unique aspects (as differing from my Palm 515) with three exceptions for which I would be most appreciative of help and/or guidance:

1. Am I able to get and write AOL messages (I am an AOL subscriber)? If yes, what do I do to enable the process?

2. Although I am purportedly GMS powered, nothing happens when I click on "Refresh GPS." Is there something additional that I must do?

3. By trial and error, I am able to start a text field in lower case by first typing and then erasing a capital letter. Is there a way to start off in lower case?

Thanks to any "mavin" able to help and best wishes.

Hi Eli,

1. I would guess forwarding to your bb address is an option in your aol preferences?

2. gps is only enabled for e911 use, to use the service say for telenav, you must subscribe to the service.

3. havent figured this one out myself. pain when typing password that DONT have an upper case first letter..

Thank you for your rapid response:

1. AOL does not appear to permit forwarding (at least I could not find a way to do this).
2. You solved the absent GPS issue.
3. Can it really be that Blackberry with all its features must force the user to type and erase a capital in order to start with a lowercase? That is almost enough reason to throw in the sponge and return to Palm.

The Blackberry Web Client will forward your AOL mail to your handheld.

As for your third issue, I find that happens so rarely I don't consider that a show stopper. It sure as hell happens less often than the Palm digitizer misinterpreting my Graffiti.

The BWC will fetch & forward your AOL mail. I found a reference to it over a year ago, but since then have setup a few of my clients with the AOL mail without problem.

About how often are the emails from AOL forwarded to the device? I have set up my AOL through (profiles) and web client and ran a test email and it hasn't gone through. Just wondering. Any suggestions?

Once set up you AOL email account is polled every 15 minutes and any new mail forwared (pushed) to your BB. The longest it can take would be 15 minutes. I have seen mail pushed to my device in about a minute. It all depends on if that email was there in time for the next "poll/push".

It really works well and I have had my AOL mailed pushed for a long time with no trouble.

Note you can set up your web client to use your AOL email return address for all messages sent from your BB. This is what I do and it, too, works perfectly so that all people replying to your BB emails go thru your AOL account. The only penalty is waiting a MAX 15 minutes but it is a smal price to pay for the service it gives me.

You almost instant email you can always use you BB address or email to a pin.
