Exclamation Please Help me with my 8700g!!!

Please Login to Remove!

I own a 8700g and its been fine until now.

My USB connection broke... or doesnt seem to work anyway, and I cannot recharge my device or back it up.

I installed the Desktop Manager to my PC and couldnt connect via USB.

I installed PocketMAC on my Macbook so I could sync via BlueTooth but no luck either. Apparently BlueTooth only works with BB on a PC.

I went out an bought a bluetooth adapter for my PC and after 2 hours of troubleshooting I discovered that unless the bluetooth on the PC is a native windows device it will not work either.

Please help! Does anyone have any suggestions how I can back up my 340+ contact and content on my device before the battery dies completely???

Please let me know ASAP

I really don't know of another wireless option other than BT sync.

Do you have any backup of the BlackBerry, even old?

Oh I do feel for you. Do you know for a fact the USB port on the BlackBerry is broken--wont recharge, either or sync? Is it plugged directly via USB to the PC--not a USB hub.
Have you pulled the battery and rebooted the BlackBerry, then tried to connect and the sync again? A battery pull reboot fixes the oddest of issues.

I don't think the 8700 can sync via Bluetooth. AFAIK, the BT connection is for voice only.

It can sync via Bluetooth but as kfirlevy says you have to use the MS driver for your BT adapter. Refer to the BB knowledgebase for details.

This is the hard way to learn but definitely set up automated backups or at least sync to Outlook on a regular basis.

Thanks guys. I think im going on a mission today to find someone to repair it. I found a tutorial on the net today on soldering the USB jack myself but I dont want to take the chance. Perhaps there's a company I can take it to that will fix it.

Why not seek out a bluetooth adapter with the needed driver? I dont think you'll loose your info when the battery runs out . . . just need to get another way of recharging or swapping batteries with another 8700 user. . . another suggestion ... head on down to your local Dell kiosk/store and have them demo their Dell notebook's built-in BT to see if they can sync up DM with your BB. Be prepared to have them save the resulting backup into a jump drive. . . . or if you know of somebody who has pc with built-in BT.

Thanks for the help! i took it to a repair shop this morning and they fixed it for $70. They just needed to solder my USB jack.

Glad I got it fixed!
