Question Will OS 4 give me more address fields?

Please Login to Remove!

Currently running OS 3.6 and the address record does not have a date of birth field. This means that I need to enter a record under calendar or sync with Outlook. Either way the address record has no date of birth even though the Outlook contact record does. Will OS 4 provide more fields such as date of birth for the address record?

Looking at my 7290 with 4.0 on it, I do not see a DOB field.

Thanks. I've read Mark's FAQ and don't much advantage in upgrading especially as I have yet to get "online with email". What do you think?

I'm only using it for voice and texting.

OK - then there is not much value in upgrading.

Geeze. ;)

Here's a better answer: OS4 definitely adds more addressbook fields, such as extra address, multiple categories. You can even map DOB to a user field, so the DOB field in your Outlook maps to one of the four user fields on the BlackBerry.

Yes, it's a bit work to map the field correctly, but you should be able to get DOB on your BlackBerry if you map the user field.

So, yes, there's benefit to OS4. I don't think 3.6 has user fields.

I think 3.6 has User Field 1-4 which can be re-mapped through Desktop Manager / Intellisync / Configure PIM / Contacts / Advanced.

I assumed he wanted a new field called Date of Birth on the BB. That he won't get even with 4.0.

It's been a long time since I've seen 3.6. If that's the case, then there may not be much of an incentive.

There are user defined fields 1 to 4 in 3.6 but Desktop Manager wil not let you map Outlook's date of birth or any date field to these user defined fields. Are you (Mark) telling me that OS4 will let me do this? Is this with DM also running at version 4?
