Default adding new caller to contacts automatically and other ?'s

Please Login to Remove!

my treo 650 went bad and i am trying out an 8800.

couple of questions/observations

how do you automatically add a contact from a new caller (ie. a call you have made or received that isn't in your contact list). Treo popped up a screen after the call asking if you wanted to add the contact with a yes no choice. Surely blackberry has this....

the interface with contacts.... seem kind of like a word document rather than a nice database type of structure. also, treo would allow you to categorize the phone number type via a drop down box beside the number (ie. the field titles were dynamic... if treo added the phone number into the Work field and it was a Mobile number, you just changed the field title). Is there a work around for this, and possibly an interface update that brings the application into the 21st century? I know there are a lot of blackberry users in the world , and i was surprised to see the 1970's interface on contacts, etc. it is a little unappealing and antiquated given today's hardware...

also, i do a lot of text messaging with my employees to keep up to date throughout the day. i am used to the conversational view that Treo has... Does bb have anything like that? It seems if i need to text message, it requires a bit of menu navigation and then selecting the name from the contact list, etc. or looking back through the list of messages that includes all email, etc until i find the last text message i sent, opening it and adding a new text message. it seems very cumbersome. am i missing something that simplifies this?

thanks for the help

When I saw the Treo 650 I was a little surprised that the interface seemed so archaic when compared to my Windows Mobile 8525. The Phone book looks like it came out of some DOS program, and so does the calendar. And why can't I multi-task well. My Windows Mobile phone is so much more advance. You would think that in present time, Palm would have something more modern than an interface someone can write in DOS BASICA. Yup, everything on the Treo is so outdated. It really takes me back to the 1980's. *sigh*

I am being sarcastic, because I love my Treo 650. But, you are complaining about an interface that looks old, when you love a phone with an interface that looks just as ancient. I mean, it looks exactly like my Palm IIIc I got back in the 90's! And if you excuse the color, just like my Palm III that came out earlier.

Sorry if it sounded rude, but your post sounded rather trollish. Like it was done to bash Blackberry and prove a superior Treo 650. Which, is not very superior. I would never go back to my Treo 650.

To add address entry: Click phone button, Highlight name, click menu, add to address book.

Quick SMS or Email: A lot easier than the Treo. It sounds like you just don't know how to use it yet. To easily send sms, mms, email, call, or pin, it ony takes 2 clicks TOTAL. From the home screen, just start typing the name. When its on the lick, click on their name, then choose SMS text. From the home screen I can sms text someone a lot quicker than with the treo.

Threaded SMS: It is already threaded. Mind shows all of the correspondence in one window. It just keeps sent messages in a different one, so I can easily just pull up the last message and read all of the messages at once. Yes, its not like the Treo .... but once you learn how to use it, the Blackberry is so much more productive because you can do things with few clicks and can even copy and paste without touching the screen.

it is threaded, but individual messages show up when on my old treo it would just show the last message on the list screen instead of 10 messages in a row.

hey! i wanted to add another question to this thread... i searched, and this is the closest i could find.

anyway, is there a way to change the default field of 'work' when adding a number? it's kind of annoying to always have to re-enter the number into 'mobile' or whatever every time i add a number.

thanks in advance!

No, that is where it defaults to, and as far as I recall, no changing it.
