Just got my monthly bill after activating my $60/25mb 8100 data plan last month, and while I only used 3.5mb of data they had a line item for $185 in data charges in ADDITION to the $60 monthly fee. I called them and they admitted the error and credited my account.

My charges are debited directly to my credit card, so the danger is that if you forget, or don't bother checking, you could get badly dinged for false data usage charges. kind of makes you wonder what kind of useless software they use to manage their billing...

BEWARE! Data revenue is HUGE for cell carriers, don't give 'em any more than you have to!

PS- $185 for 3.5mb of data. You gotta love it :(

Rogers had a major batch of billing errors lately... I called them recently and got $150 of charges removed.

I'm currently on the 200MB/$100 plan, because I was beginning to use more than 20MB data regularly. The offshoot is that I can easily do Bluetooth tethering with my 8700 as a modem for laptop on Rogers. (Need OS 4.2 on my 8700 for that to work). Because of that, I'm now using about 50-75MB per month. (using propel.com dialup accelerator compression to keep data usage down)

We also had an issue a while ago when we used a Windows Mobile device temporarily (ie. swapped SIMs with a Blackberry). The bill ended up being $1400 for data overages. The detailed billing made no sense ($5.00 for 150k of traffic, then $10.00 for 100k). After arguing with them a few times and pointing out the fact that it didn't add up, they finally admitted that it was a problem with their billing system.

My friend Courtney also received a riduculous data bill when she doesnt even use a BB.. She is still trying to resolve the issue with Rogers.
