Unhappy SMS via GPRS

Please Login to Remove!

I know there has been plenty of discussion on this subject but I'm still having problems sending sms via GPRS.

I'm on Vodafone uk with a BB 7130. I have GPRS coverage but when I set sms to send via GPRS (not GPRS preferred!) i get the error "Requested Facility not Implemented"

I've tried rebooting/battery pull etc but still cannot get this to work. SMS over GSM works fine but obviously comes off my (low) text allowance.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Most carriers have disabled this AFAIK. I'm not certain about Voda but the US carriers have.

Is there a reason they disable it?

Are you implying that SMS over GRPS would not be billed?

lol, it is their network, their company, their business.

I don't think free SMS is a God-given right or privilege.

if your carrier allows SMS over GPRS, you'll be using data packets to send SMS, which is billable according to your data plan... if you have GPRS Preferred, your SMS will try to use GPRS to transmit but after a failed attempt, it will resend via GSM, which will be almost always the case . . .
