Default Does WIPE really mean WIPE?

I'm giving my old blackberry to a friend. I want to make sure that it's totally clean- no emails, sms messages, phone records, calendar entries, etc.

Does WIPE really WIPE everything?

Thanks for the tips!

With regards to applications:
Wipes all data but not applications.
Installed applications will remain but their application data such as settings, memory, etc will be deleted.
