Default Does WIPE really mean WIPE?

I'm giving my old blackberry to a friend. I want to make sure that it's totally clean- no emails, sms messages, phone records, calendar entries, etc.

Does WIPE really WIPE everything?

With regards to applications:
Wipes all data but not applications.
Installed applications will remain but their application data such as settings, memory, etc will be deleted.
Blackberry Curve (8300r) on Rogers (Toronto, ON) with hosted BES. Previously: 8700r and 7290.
