Default BES/Domino Newbie

I'm in the process of installing and configuring Domino, prior to installing BES for Domino.

I'm finding that the BES portion seems fairly well documented, but not the Domino config.

I have several questions regarding the server's configuration:
1. Does the BES Domino server simply replicate the Directory Assistance and Domino Directory(ies)?
2. How do I tell the BES Domino what.how to replicate?
3. How do I "point" BES to look to the production Domino server for mailboxes?
4. I will be installed the BES Router on a DMZ server, but is MDS typically installed (I noticed there are several BES installation types)?
