Question How Can I Uninstall Roxio Media Manager?

Please Login to Remove!

I made the mistake of downloading the full version of Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 w/ Roxio Media Manager. Personally I hate Roxio programs (way too much crap running in the background, etc) and I use mass storage mode so have no need for RMM. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to uninstall Roxio. There is no listing in Add/Remove programs (I have Win XP SP2 BTW) and no uninstall icon.

I tried completely uninstalling BB DM 4.2, which removed the Desktop Manager but left Roxio! C'mon. Then when I reinstalled BB DM 4.2 using the full version, I chose "Custom" and unchecked Roxio hoping it would remove it. No dice. So I am back where I was before w/ BB DM 4.2 and Roxio still there.

I know there is a version of DM 4.2 w/o Roxio but since uninstalling Roxio is the real issue here, not sure if that would help me.

Any ideas?

I would love to know this also. I agree, roxio runs too many processes, even when you think you've turned it off...it still runs 2 processes in bg.

Well after many tries I was finally able to uninstall Roxio. I had definitely tried the same procedure that ultimately worked earlier so not sure why it didn't work then but here goes.

Go to Add/Remove programs in the XP Control Panel

Go to BB Desktop Manager 4.2 and click Remove

Once the wizard starts, you have 3 choices - pick Modify

Then follow the prompts and ultimately you will get to a screen where it lists the different components (you may have to choose Custom install if prompted for Typical vs. Custom - can't remember). Make sure you put an X next to Media Manager and keep following the prompts.

The one problem you may encounter is a dialog box that says it can't find the right file. What you need to do is to run the original self extracting ZIP install file that you downloaded from RIM. It will basically start another install process, but as soon as it gets to the first screen, switch back the original "Modify" install and continue with that process. Then it can find the files it needs. Pretty confusing and tripped me up a few times.

That should remove it. There won't be a Media icon in Desktop Manager anymore and those Roxio programs are gone.

Again, not sure why this didn't work earlier but eventually it definitely did.
