Well, let's call a spade a spade... it WAS down for a whole week... at least as far as business people are concerned. The Sidekick service was down through the entire work week! If you really wanted to, you could go to online forums devoted to the Sidekick, search back through the archives, and find numerous threads from spring '05 talking about the outage. In the end, T-Mobile ended up giving ALL SK users a $20 credit on their bill that month. For those that also used it as a phone (the only function that would work during the Week of Hell), that meant their data service was free that month. For those, such as myself, that were using it as a data only device (meaning it was completely worthless during the Week of Hell), it meant we only paid $10 for that month of service. And on top of that, T-Mobile ALSO reset the online downloads Catalog, giving SK owners a week of free downloads, with exclusive games and other content that were previously unavailable. But it still didn't make up for being without your mobile email and web browsing solution for a whole business week!

Now you know why I won't return to using a Sidekick... the BlackBerry is far more reliable!

BTW, I don't recall ever seeing it explained before, so... what is an SLA?

Fortunately, RIM seems to be pretty responsive, I was only down on BIS for several hours, which I can deal with once in a while (believe it or not, my life does not depend on my e-mail being available in real time 24x7... heh).

Anyway, even though these outages suck and really shouldn't ever happen, I think we all need to make sure to remember that computer systems do go down once in a while, and I think we should be very glad that we have a company like RIM working for us, even though there's some downtime once in a while, it sounds like they jump on it and get it fixed as quickly as they can.
Exactly. The CrackBerry is the # 1 PDA phone choice for businesses and government users. And to those people, time is money! So, RIM and the various carriers want to make sure those power users remain happy campers!

Hey - at least they didn't completely disable 12,000 handhelds the way Microsoft disabled 12,000 Windows systems..........
WHAT?!?

First I've heard of this... what's the deal? What did MS do?!?

OK, I tried once again to delete and re-enter my email accounts on Blackberry.com....I've done this before, with no problem, and Verizon is still NOT AN OPTION...

Anyone know why?

Isn't this the correct link to do this?

It appears my BIS messages stopped working again...resending service books isn't helping either this time. I guess I'll just wait until tomorrow and hope it all works again. *shrugs*

Not to pile on a dead horse, but we've had off and on problems all day on Alltel here in Nebraska.
Just tried to re-send all the service books, and they aren't coming through.
I hope its back by 9.
At least its Friday and not monday morning.

Yeah, shrug..... I can tell some emails being sent to me now are getting to me now, and some are not. And email sent earlier today is still slowly coming in. And not even in the order sent. Weird.

BerryShack.com is reporting the information for Crackberry. They are saying 10 EDT/6PM PST (we're not on standard time right now but...)

Give it another hour according to them.

Thumbs up Service Books - 09-07-2007, 08:56 PM

Hi everyone. First post for me here. I'm just outside of Chicago, and have been following along all day. I resent my service books from my Pearl with no luck. However, I just went to Tmo's BIS website and resent the service books from there. Now for the past 5 minutes, my Pearl has been dinging with all of my emails are coming in.

The last email I got this morning was approx. 8:50 AM. Since then I've had 4 emails get through since 4:24 PM California time -- one of them was a duplicate that I got again about 1 hour later. Progress?

At 9:30 PM EST here's my situation on T-Mobile BIS:

Blackberry receives nothing. Neither my [email address] nor my [email address] email comes through.

I can send email from my Blackberry via my .Mac email account.

I cannot send from my tmo.blackberry.net account.

I think others will back me up. A large scale problem like this is rare. This only second time is the several years I've been using blackberrys. And I expect it will be straightened out tonight.

The last major outage like this was 7 months ago. Before that it was something like 2 years, IIRC. Lets hope the next outage is farther out than another 7 months!

I've started getting email deliveries more frequent. Also have started getting emails (some delayed and others current) from yahoo whereas all afternoon and late morning was only getting on blackberry.net address. FWIW.

Default Bb Down T-mobile - 09-07-2007, 08:48 PM

Ok, I don't have a signal and not had one for over 4 hours. I have the big red X where the bars should be and I have gone to the t-mobile store and got a new sim card and rest my bb soft (alt, del, caps) and pulled the battery etc. I travelled from Nashville, TN to Birmingham Al and about 1/2 way I lost my signal. when I rest it say searching for network then eventually comes up with no signal.

Anything else I can do?

Is it t-moble or my phone?

Looks like it's coming back now. No flood of earlier emails yet but recent test emails are working across the board.

None of this is life-or-death for me, but it's creepy how I've gotten addicted to having my Blackberry at 100%. Kinda sad when a (mostly) grown man stares at a blank Blackberry screen waiting for something to happen.

I have AT&T BIS and absolutely nothing YAHOO. I lost service for about 6 hours today. I did nothing more than resend service books and all my missing e mails came bouncing in. I couldn't receive, but I could send from the BB during this time. What does Yahoo have to do with AT&T?

The same thing happened to a report of mine who had lost his BIS service from our same corporate server as well. After a long wait he finally got assistance from AT&T tech support who blamed YAHOO as well.

I don't understand the whole thing. I thought on BIS the BB talked directly to my e mail server. If that is true, where did Yahoo get involve?

Regards,

MikeyMike

Just tried again to resend service books, and am experiencing the exact same thing.

It's 10:38 Central Time. I resent service books over an hour ago and immediately got a bunch of emails from earlier today. But still not receiving any new emails in any of my 3 accounts.

Actually, I'm a bit relieved. I cleaned my trackball this morning and then stopped getting email. I thought I had killed my Curve!

I have confirmed that maybe it is back and maybe it is not back and maybe it is coming back and maybe it is not coming back. Straight from RIM.
