Cool Blackberry in Denmark & Sweden

Please Login to Remove!

I'm headed to Denmark and Sweden, of course, I will have my Blackberry with me. Does anyone know if I have good, average or perfect coverage? Are Blackberries as popular in Scandinavia as they are in the United States?

You need to call cingular and ask them that. Your coverage is carrier dependant and you will be roaming so that makes it more complicated if cingular allows you to roam in those countries.

Scandanavia has almost perfect coverage. I doubt you can find a spot that has none--mostly 4 or 5 bars everywhere.

At the beginning of August I spent some time in Stockholm and in the hinterlands by the Baltic. Perfect coverage everywhere.

Europe is all GSM. You will have great coverage while you're there. It's not cheap, but you'll have it.

Everyone says GSM which I know is good, but what about Blackberry Data? Is it everywhere you can get GSM?

I've never not had BB data while travelling in Europe. Occasionally, you'll find a network here or there that doesn't have data but usually there are 3 or 4 other networks to choose from.

Mr. Clark, amazingly you said it perfectly even you haven't used BB data in Europe.

That's not what I said. Basically, what I said was I have always had data coverage everywhere in Europe.

"I have never not had data coverage."

Coverage is excellent in Europe.

Data is data. The BB interface is hosted by your home carrier, not the roaming one. As long as your home carrier offers the BB service, you can use it anywhere you roam that has data covergage whether or not that carrier offers any BB plans.

Exactly. As I stated above, occassionally, I hit a network that doesn't have data but a simple manual scan for networks will bring up other options and there's always data on at least one (usually most) of the other networks. Europe/BB/Data

I don't get this explanation, sorry. How do you get GPRS or EDGE over a GSM network? Aren't they different? Or is that how the blackberry connects to the BB network (over GSM)? I guess I never took the time to understand this.

GSM is the frequencies - Europe uses 900 or 1800 MHz. GPRS or EDGE relates to network speed. There's hardly a service provider in Europe who doesn't offer at least GPRS. So you shouldn't have a problem at all. I'm with a Belgian provider and I move around Europe quite a bit - no problems.

I have a prepaid (Scandinavian) phone I use for local-Euro calls. I'm just bringing my Blackberry for SMS and email and internet access and all the other toy-stuff

THanks so much to all of you - You're all so smart
