Default Understanding Backup

Please Login to Remove!

I backup my 8300 regularly. I do it manually and do a complete backup. Today, I had to wipe my phone for one reason or another. When I wiped it it prompted to wipe 3rd party apps as well. I did that thinking I could restore from my backup.

When the phone reset and I re-activated my BES, I hooked up to DM to do a restore. None of my third party apps, settings, etc. restored.

Maybe someone can help me understand how backup works and doesn't. Thanks.

System Backup, to my understanding, does not include 3rd party apps, for reasons unbeknownst to me.

For future application, you should use this:

I would use this method each time you install a new 3rd Party App and when you update your OS.

Hope this helps.

GCW, thanks. I found that after I had posted. I suppose the larger question that I'm asking is: What exactly does DM's backup back up?

Being on BES, I don't need Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Tasks, etc. backed up. So what am I protecting when I do a backup via DM?

I'm used to the Windows Mobile world where I used Sprite Backup which completely backed up my phone, registry settings, customizations, etc. If, for some reason, I had to hard reset ("wipe" in BB terms) the phone, I could restore from a backup and be right back where I started.

I lost all my settings for the BB OS and 3rd party apps (not to mention the apps themselves.) So, what does backup do?
