Default What are Contacts on Back/Side of BB for?

The brass/copper looking contacts on the side of the 8820 and back of the 8300. What are they for? Thanks.

I don't think it does. I don't know who does, because it's easier to plug in the USB and sync at the same time.

that particular desktop stand doesn't use the metal contacts. It uses USB. The one from Shopblackberry.com does use the metal contacts.
