Default WAP and additional charges

Please Login to Remove!

I recently started using Opera mini and read in a forum to change the TCP setting from ISP to WAP. I was shocked to see my bill was $100 more than normal on my next bill. The additional charges were under : Media Pay Per Use Internet Express. The ATT CS was nice enough to adjust off 50% of the unexpected charges. I told her I changed the TCP settings. She said do you know how to change it back. I said, do I just need to change the TCP settings back to Isp? She said yes.

My question is (sorry if this is in the wrong forum) By changing the APN from WAP.cingular to ISP.cingular and the user name to [email address] will this stop the additional charges? Because the CS did something on her end I'm not able to view the data portion of my current bill. I want to be sure I reversed everything correctly. Was the additional pay per use charges for using Opera Mini and having the TPC/APN set at WAP?

Thanks!
J

do you have a BB plan?

if so then that shouldn't have made a difference.

Yes I have unlimited BB data plan. If changing the TCP setting to WAP didn't cause the additional charges what did?

not sure but I have mine set that way and have never seen any additional charges

besides unlimited data is exactly that doesnt specify which data. I think you'll find most on these forums have changed their apn to wap.cingular without experiencing any additional charges I would argue and get it all credited

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I agree with EZ--no additional charges for the WAP use. Unlimited is unlimited. Period. The only exception could from thethering your BlackBerry as a modem for your laptopan but ATT is not know for that.

ATT CS in an online chat said: You altered the device to work with pay per use and should be charged. He was surprised it even worked. And that bb's dont use either wap or isp. but some how the wap got through, bbs use a completely different apn.
As soon as I mentioned Opera mini the conversation stopped. He just said we dont support 3rd party and to call CS for additional billing support.

I'm confused now. I'm afraid to go online now!

definitely skip online. you could be talking to someone in India. Call there are 5 call centers here in the US only time you get an outsourced call center is if you have business acct or US call centers are over loaded. They are full of it I know countless whom are doing exactly what you are and YOU can't configure it to be pay-per-use that is a feature that would have to be added to your acct.

When I called CS she agreed I should have no addtl charges, and then changed something in my account. (I can't view the data section online says I recently made changes)

Anyway thanks guys, atleast now when I speak to CS again I will sound like I know what I'm talking about.

Just got off the phone with CS. She adjusted off the rest of the overage and said to check my next bill. If there are anymore usage charges call them back and they will take care of it.

The CS was VERY courteous and apologetic. So often you hear horror stories about terrible CS agents. But this one was exceptional.

Thanks again ezrunner! This forum ROCKs!
