Default 8820 and Blackberry Maps

Please Login to Remove!

I read several threads about AT&T not allowing BB Maps on the 8800 series but I just got mine yesterday and when I went to the home page on the blackberry browser there was a link to download the application. It said it did not work with AT&T but I downloaded it and it is the latest BB maps version and it is working fine on my 8820. Am I missing something or is AT&T just trying to get people to use Telenav? Telenav is cool but for as little as I would probably use GPS I cannot see paying $10 a month for the service.

Nope, you can use it. It actually comes loaded to the device but the icon is permanently hidden. It can be "unhidden" but downloading from the web works too. Enjoy.

How do you unhide the icon so that the application can be used?

I did not have to unhide it since it just showed up after downloading the app from the BB browser home page. There is a thread to unhide the icon but seems like a lot more work then to do a simple download.

Sometimes the version that you download is older than the version that comes preloaded with the OS.

Here is the tread about "unlocking" blackberry maps.
