| A lot, why don't you try it and see for yourself. The RIM browser blows compared to what Opera can do. There are pages that won't even render correctly or even work with the BB Browser that work with Opera just fine. Give it a try, you'll like it. | | Offline

Wow!!!
You can view several more sites that are NOT available on the bb browser because of the java. You can also view sites as they would look on a regular PC. That's just the beginning.
I felt the same way you did. Not I use Opera almost exclusively.

| Even if you enable Java on the BB Browser, it still can't properly render some sites. That's a limitation of the silly RIM Proxy servers you use when you browse via the BB Browser. When you use Opera Mini 4 you're actually still using proxy servers (Opera's), but they properly interpret and render sites much better. RIM needs to hurry up and come to market with full HTML/RTF email support and full browsing. The BB's capabilities are limited in this respect and RIM should be ashamed that it's almost 2008 and they still haven't done anything about it. | | Offline

» Do you sometimes lose the connection? | Yes...I've lost connection like 2 or 3 times today. But I've been on alll day so I guess it's expected. Over all other then losing connection a few times a day, the browser is amazing.
I would suggest to anyone. | | Offline

Are you rebooting the device to get your connection back?

| I absolutely LOVE Opera Mini 4. I have to admit that I wasn't very impressed with OM 3, but kept it installed on my device just in case. The latest version is AWESOME! Hands down a better browser than BB for sure. I strongly encourage everybody to give it a try. I told all of my BB-toting coworkers about it today, and that's all they were talking about for the remainder of the day.
I have experienced a few moments of non-activity when loading certain sites, but I sum that up to the size of the home page on those sites, like Sports Illustrated, ESPN, CNN. I've been searching, and some sites offer mobile versions, like espn.go.com/mobileespn/index .
I agree that RIM should be ashamed of their snail's-pace to get their software up to snuff with 3rd party apps. You'd think they would corner the market on this. Great device, I love it. Not so great applications that come pre-loaded on it.
Hooray for Opera!!!

| In regards to Wifi functionality, I haven't been able to get this to work properly. In settings, I've switched the protocol from "Socket" to "HTTP" and turned off my mobile network. No go. Wifi access with this browser would be excellent.
There are other threads indicating people have gotten Opera to work over wifi on different Wifi equipped devices.
On another note, I wish Opera would allow you to save images, or select them for e-mail, PIN, MMS, Messenger much like the BB browser. Oh well, small price to pay for "actual" web browsing. | | Offline

| Anyone experiencing NO CONNECTION with Opera as of yesterday? Mine stopped working and battery pulls or reregisters on network don't seem to change anything. Did an uninstall and reinstall and Opera won't even pass the initial steps of finding network connectivity on it's initial launch. It's very weird.... I had this happen once before and it just went away after a week or so if I remember correctly. I'd much rather find the exact cause though. | | Offline

| I finally just uninstalled it last night because the connection seems to just "stall" after a while. I don't really know how to explain other than it will just give me the "connecting" message for ever and ever. The arrows in the upper right are going crazy (mostly like its downloading info, not uploading). If I exit out of Opera Mini the arrows continue to go beserk until I do a battery pull. Also, until I do a battery pull, I'm unable to connect using the standard BB browser.
This happened when I had the last beta and I would pull the battery and it would be OK for a while, then start doing it again. After about 2 weeks, I started to get a "Failed to Connect to the Internet" message when I tried to start Opera and it wouldn't even try to load pages anymore. So, I just dumped the application. Version 4 worked for me last night until these annoying hangs started again....
It's too bad because I love the application and the way it renders pages, but i can't deal with the hanging. | | Offline

I'm having some of the same hang ups. But there not as often as you describe.
Does anyone know why it disconnects so frequently? | | Offline

| Seems that I got this thread going and have tried the software. I have similar problems with long connect times. The BB browser connects quicker for some reason. I am have no explanation. | | Offline

Thanks for the tip about battery pulls ;) | I don't know if the issue is why but how do we get it to stop?
I am needing to do a battery pull after every 15 min of use. Maybe there is a workaround???
