That seems strange, I would try reloading the software and then a cold start, ie pull the battery

How were you able to unlock the phone if the SIM was in backwards???

There's no requirement for a SIM to be in the slot to uplock it. The 8800 and 8830 both can unlock without a SIM in it. These have been my findings anyway.

Maybe it's different with the 8800 and 8830. I had to have the SIM in place when I unlocked my 8820.

funny, I admire the dude for coming back to edit the post and give the solution! (I thought the SIM had to be in place, too).

I thought it might help someone else

the sim was in when I unlocked, then tried the new SIM-- put it in wrong. then put the original sim back in wrong. then figured it out.

I dont think I've ever had a phone where the SIM would fit more than one way-- I thought that's why it had that cut out corner.

but it goes in backwards with the BB

thanks

If it says "Network......Active" that is definitely a locked BB. I would check with BBF member ShapelessBB. He may be able to unlock it for you.

I've done this on my 8800 multiple times. I switch between several Blackberrys as the mood strikes me, and each one takes the SIM differently. Most have an outline on the SIM area that shows where the cut off corner goes, but the 8800 just has a slot. It's the least intuitive of all the Blackberrys as far as installing the SIM.
