Default Problems with 8800

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, i have been trying this for about a 2 days now, and now I have to ask for help, lol. I have a Blackberry 8800 for AT&T. I have no BES or BIS or anything like that, BUT I have a generic data plan for my old 8525. Two problems, I put google maps on there, but it says that it has a network error. I also have tried the newest Opera Mini, its on there, installs, and then it says it cant connect. I have changed the TCP (These are my settings)
APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email address]
Pass: CINGULAR1

I have done a battery pull, and uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing, can someone point me in the right direction or what? I update the desktop manager and the OS. Nothing seems to work. Maybe older versions, but I can find those. If anyone can, help me out, thanks.

You need a BlackBerry Data Plan. You can't use a regular data plan for other phones. It must be a BB plan so that you can connect to the RIM network.

there is no way to use it without the data plan? That doesnt sound right, Opera mini and Google maps use wap access, which is different from going trough the regular BIS servers.

I would like to point this out also

You need a BB unlimited data plan to get the map features to work. You cannot download entire maps. The BB uses portions of maps and constantly downloads new sections as you travel.

Why doesn't it sound right that you need a BB dataplan? BBs are not like regular cell phones or PDAs.

Try this for your APN settings:

APN: proxy
UN: (blank)
PW: (blank)

AT&T has a few different APN settings. See if that one helps...

Ha ha, funny. Its too bad I just finished installing the old opera and it is working smoothly. I have an e-mail client, and I also have Another GPS program running with turn by turn directions. I cant help it if I dont want to pay 44.99 and another 9.99 for my phone, I also use WM6, so it wouldnt work. Thanks clown. Thanks for the proxy APN, it worked, with a hard reset also.

Cool, sounds like you got working what will work, without the Data Plan. If you're not a "power" email user and don't need full functionality of the other BB features, going without a Data Plan is find (for some people).

So your Blackberry has downloaded all your maps and is working perfectly via GPS and WiFi?

I guess you can't drive to far from a WiFi site.
