Using BlackBerry As Modem - BlackBerryFAQ

Some setup may be slightly different for Vista but should be basically the same.

I looked at that and was not able to get it to work. I will further persue the issues on that thread.

I do have another question tho. If I have internet service on my sim chip, and the wireless cards use the same sim chip and setting to connect your laptop to the internet, I should just be able to plug my phone into my laptop and not have to use it as a modem with dialup right? I forget the name of the wireless card I used before, but can I just use the blackberry like it was a wireless card???

Thanks for your help again

No, the BB doesn't work "just like the wireless cards." The only way to get the BB to work as a modem is with the instructions above.

OK I am finding that there is another problem here. Version 4.2 is not working on my Vista system but works fine on my XP system. I am downloading 4.3 now to see if it will works.

This may be my whole problem.

" The Blackberry Desktop software does not have Blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or systems administrator."

Personally, I don't recommend 4.3.

4.2 SP2 should work with Vista.

The application loader is for loading apps to the BB. You don't use it for using your BB as a modem. However, to get rid of that message and see the apps on your device you have to also install the handheld OS for your device to the pc.

You just need Desktop manager to be running in order to use the BB as a modem. You don't need to go into application loader.

The pin for the BB is not set up in the manager, and that is the only place I could find to set up the PIN. Otherwise the desktop software is not recognizing my device. Under the PIN it is currently saying "unknown" or
"not listed" or something like that. When I went through that software it found my pin number on a USB port. I selected it, and then got that message.

Default Other Problems

Well I think I have other problems. On my Tablet PC running Vista, I can not get the desktop manager to respond to anything once I plug the blackberry in. It allows me to click on icon's prior to hookup, but after hookup, the icons do not respond.

I am running the 4.2.2. I have removed it and reinstalled it twice now, thinking that may have been an issue. It still will not respond.

I have been using this same program on my XP system for a good long while with no issues.

Please let me know what I need to do to fix this.
