Since we are ranting about the search button and reading through multiple threads. A pet peeve of mine is people double posting within minutes of the first post. When in the amount of time to post the same question twice they could have searched and found the answer themselves. Ok that is the end of my rant.

That's just plain BS. I don't know you consider the "BB elite" (because there are none) but I rarely see that as single response on this board. Normally, it might come like, "A search would have turned up..." and then listed a couple of threads or an FAQ link to the answer.

I said I rarely see it. It does happen. But it is against the policy of this forum to simply tell a new user to "Search" without providing some direction or link.

Now... if Dawg or Juwaack come on here asking how how to set their ringtone, they will be told to search in short order. And bashed and made the butts of many jokes. And their avatars will be stolen and held hostage.

Search can also be bad. I have seen 2 year old threads dug up and resurected because of search!

What's wrong with resurrecting an old thread? If it has the same question the person is looking for and a valid answer or discussion points...

Not anymore..... threads with no activity (not counting stickys) are now auto locked after 180 days. That went into affect a couple of months ago.

OK, yeah, I was ubergrumpy when I posted this. The posts that followed made me feel better about ig-noobs with a.d.d. (intentionally lower-cased so i'm not yelling!) who post questions because they are too lazy to search for what we know is an existing topic. It is most annoying when you see a new thread pop up not two days after the same topic was created and circulating the forum. It's somewhat refreshing when the poster at least says, "I searched everywhere and can't seem to find the answer to what is probably a simple question. Forgive me if this topic already exists. Can anyone direct me to a thread, or help me out, please?" Yeah, right....

Hopefully RIM pays somebody to read these forums and address and correct the issues we all experience with our devices. Let's just say that when voice-recognition technology becomes the norm, our woes will more than likely be minimized: "Blackberry: teach me about Shortcuts." "Blackberry: guide me to the Beverly Hilton." "Blackberry: complete my Expense Report." "Blackberry: grande americano with whip."

OK, I'm getting slap-happy. Time to shut 'er down...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

If all you're looking for are new posts, this forum would peter out pretty quick and this entire site would turn into an archive. If you don't want to respond to a repeated question - it's simple: Don't reply. Move on to one of the VERY few questions that haven't been asked. Repeated questions give intermediate users the chance to become the new board sages.

The problem with your statement is this. When I log on the first thing I do is hit new posts (since I frequent here so much) and what do my eyes see the same question in four different sections. So yes it does get aggravating for most. Yes I could choose not to respond, but i could also in a nice way direct the new people in a positive way. This is not always done it really depends on how the question is phrased to me. If some one comes in and its there first post and blow it all out no i am more likely to tell them to search.

If they come in and I can genuinely tell they need help i will help them. and refer then to the search feature.
