I have the 8830 from Verizon and everything is working just fine, so I'm wondering if there is a need to update the os. I saw what the updates are, and I don't need any of those things. Do these software upgrades ever provide things like stonger signal, faster response, etc.? The only thing I can't stand is the lousy ringer volume. I'm not one for mp3 ringers. I like the standard classic phone ringer and it's just not nearly loud enough. My old 8700g from Tmobile could shatter windows...

If everything is working fine, and there is not a feature in the OS you must have--not need to upgrade.

Ask in that thread if the upgrade helps with the ringtone volume.

If you have 4.2.2.66, be aware that it has a flaw that causes your BB 8830 to hard lock up on certain CDMA networks. It happened to me in Puerto Rico and in searching the web, I found a number of instances of this. I was able to find that the 4.2.2.148 software had a fix for this.

If you are on .66, I'd recommend it. Not sure about the supposedly soon to be released version from Verizon & whether or not that will have any additional fixes.

If you are a mac user like me, can you take your phone to a Verizon store to get a software update?
