BB 8820 GPRS problem Dear all, I am writing to you since I am really struggling with one material problem with my Blackberry 8820. I cannot use GPRS networks. The sim I am using has this service in the pack since I have used this one in the past. I really suspect that the problem is in the browser. In Browser Default Configurations it has only “Wi-Fi Browser” option. It does not offer another option. The phone itself sees the GPRS, because there is an indicator on the screen “gprs”. As per the manual it means that the phone cannot connect the GPRS network. Whenever it is ready to transfer the data it should “GPRS”, i.e. in capitals. I tried to download OperaMini, but failed the desktop manager says that “No additional applications designed for your device were found”. I tried another browser “Minuet” and again the same error. I am using the phone in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I am not corporate, so I do not use BES. I can check emails only by surfing through GPRS to gmail.com and Yahoo.com. I have bought it in Hong Kong. The service provider is CSL. The phone was unlocked. I used Wi-Fi smoothly, but I cannot set up a GPRS connection. I wonder if there is still a chance to set up the connection otherwise I will be forced to return the device, because I extremely need GPRS connection? Please, I would do more than appreciate if anyone could help me in this. I do not want to lose this phone since I liked it very much. |
btw what will happen if i install software provided by some other carrier, let's say T-mobile? will my phone lock up? plz help!!! |
Welcome to BB Forums. I'll try to answer some of these questions and see how far we get... Your phone will NOT relock after installing software. To get rid of the "No additional applications" message, you must install the Handheld Operating System, in addition to the Desktop Manager software, onto your PC. Then you will be able to install Opera Mini onto the BlackBerry. Check out Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ for information on how to download and install the Handheld Operating System. Here's the rough part - you will need to get the GPRS APN information from your carrier to TRY and get the BlackBerry to work over GPRS for the Internet. I don't have that information... |
thank you very much for such expedient reply. really appreciate. one more question: as far as understand from other threads the main problem is BB browser, isn't it? |
What problem? Without a BlackBerry Data Plan - which must come from your carrier, you will never get the BlackBerry Browser. That software is pushed down to your BlackBerry if and only if you have a BlackBerry Data Plan. |
For HK CSL I found these apn settings: apn:hkcsl username:[blank] password:[blank] OR apn:internet username:[blank] password:[blank] Leave the username and password fields blank. There is no place to enter the following but thought I'd post the info anyway: DNS: 202.84.255.1, 203.116.254.150 You'll need a 3rd party browser in order to surf the web with these settings. I recommend www.operamini.com |
