Do you have another device? What happens if you put the Sim Card in it?

EDIT: Are you sure the device is unlocked?

Well have you tried updating the Host Routing Tables? It can't hurt but might not help.

Menu>options>Advanced Options>Host Routing Tables>Menu>Register Now

Otherwise you might need to wait for some others to chime in here...

Sorry!

Anybody out there have any ideas for this member? I don't know how helpful the carrier will be with a non-branded device?

Try inserting the SIM 180 degrees from the way you inserted it previously.

It really sounds to me like th SIM isn't hitting the contacts so it doesn't "see" it. About the only thing I can think of.

i know that isnt the problem because i have a pin on my sim card that i must enter everytime the phone is turned on. when it is in the blackberry it asks for my pin and i enter it and it accepts. then im in the phone but cant get service. still, i tried rotating the sim card and it said insert sim so i know this isnt it.

My guess is that it isn't unlocked.

burton7 - can you try this please?

On the BB, go into Options -> Advanced Options -> SIM Card

Type the letters MEPD and a new menu should appear.

What does it say next to the word "Network".

Thanks!

Which confirms 100% that it is unlocked. Why it won't work with the SIM card is back to being the issue.

Let's look at this - not sure what version of the OS you are running, so these details may be a bit off. Can you go to Manage Connections or Network (whatever it is called) - we want to get to the Mobile Network options and make sure that the Network Selection Mode is set to Automatic.

Kind of grasping at straws here..

ya ive tried running it in automatic and manual. when its in automatic, it searches for netword then it says no service after a while. when in manual, it says scanning for availible networks, then after a while it says its timed out and to try again later.
