I am trying to connect my Dell Latitude D820 to the Desktop Manager software via Bluetooth. I cannot seem to get this to work. I have paired the 8830 with my laptop and have been able to transfer files not using the Desktop Software, so I know that both devices have been paired properly. However, when configuring the connection settings in my Desktop Manager, I detect nothing which makes using this software impossible. The Latitiude uses Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module with Microsoft certified drivers. No matter what I try, the Desktop Manager will not detect my 8830. The USB connection works properly and I have upgraded to version 4.3 after I could not get 4.2.2 to work. Anybody have any suggestions or I am SOL?

I was successfully able to use Bluetooth with the Dell Latitude D820 (both for Desktop synch and Tethering). Just like you, I had the same issues where my device was not being detected by the Desktop Manager (after confirming many times that it was paired up). I deleted the Toshiba stack for BT and used the standard Windows Drivers (XP SP2), the device I am using is vzw 8830, desktop Manager version 4.2.1.8.

Can you please confirm:

• What OS are you using (XP SP2)?
• Desktop Manager > Under Options > Connection Settings > Have you Enabled Bluetooth Support?

The problem is that the 8830 doesn't support 'Bluetooth Serial Port' which you need for Blackberry Desktop Manager to work via BT. The 8830 only supports the following services:

• Headset
• Handsfree
• Dial-Up Networking
• Audio Source
• A/V Remote Control Target

I have also removed the Toshiba stack, but I still cannot connect to the desktop manager.

This seems pretty lame when you consider the cost of these phones and how they tout Bluetooth connectivity. Oh well. Such is life.

According to RIM, the serial port profile is supported on the 8830. I'm wondering if this is being suppressed by the carrier? I'm on Sprint and trying to figure this out in order to go competely wireless. BlackBerry - BlackBerry 8830

I added the entry for my VID/PID of the adapter, and after saving the bth.inf file, I right-clicked it in Explorer and selected Install.

The next time I plugged in my USB adapter, it found my "new" dummy entry and installed the Microsoft Bluetooth stack flawlessly. Paired up, opened Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.3, followed the Options -> Connection Settings -> Enable Bluetooth support, etc.
