Default No personal email option in setup

Brand new 8700c from ATT online. In email setup, only has option for BES or skip this step.

Tried to setup online by entering PIN and IMEI, and get message "this device registered w/ another service".

Thoughts?

That sucks, if i were you i would just go back to AT&T and have them give you a diffrent phone or set it up for you.

If they are getting that message it's not a new phone.... maybe a refurb. If you bought it ATT direct call them. If you got it elsewhere it's a whole different story and it might not have a happy ending.

Not sure what to look for physically. I think it would be with the packaging. Does it look like an original RIM bag with the original sticky film on the screen or is it in a generic bag?

I think your best bet is to call the carrier. They will have to release the PIN and IMEI before you can set it up. The fact that the server knows your number is assigned to another account tells you that it's been in use before.

definitely, you have to go back to where you purchase your device and have it resolve on their end, it mustn't your burden after all.

On the device, click on Settings -> Options -> Security Options -> General Settings. Scroll down and see what's in the IT Policy Name field....

You may have received a Referb unit. You will need to return it to an at&t store not a vendor who sells at&t service. Some vendors have sold returns. If you did buy it from a vendor you will have to either call at&t directly or go to a corporate store. If you do go to a store, ask the sales people if it is a corporate store. If not ask where the closest is and go there.

If a vendor was used and they made a honest mistake, they should exchange it. Worth a try first.

Good Luck

What will this tell me? I am having the very same problem. However, mine is company-issued. In all the other BB's I have been issues, this has never come up.

To clarify, my (two) personal email folder icons do appear on the home screen, but they are empty, and the error "Transaction error - failure at service" appears when I attempt to send an email from either of the two addresses. However, those failed messages do show up in my main Messages list. Also, when I compose an email, I am still given the option of sending from Desktop or either of the two personal addresses. I hope that makes sense.

Similar issue. I've always used personal email in the past, but my new company issued BB doesn't have that icon on it. So I went to the web to set it up and I get a message saying that I cannot do it online, I have to set it up via the BB itself. I think I've got an IT policy that keeps the setup icon from being on the phone. Is there a way around it so that I can get my personal email without having to mess with the IT policy?

I was able to resolve this by calling AT&T and having them reactivate my personal email accounts over the phone. We sent several test emails, and everything is working exactly as it should now.
