Default Help!!! New VZW OS install failed and 8830 dead...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi - I'm overseas in China with my Verizon 8830 and was asked to update my OS to the latest (4.2.2_176...) to improve service, and in the middle of the update during the reboot the process failed and now I have a dead phone. when trying to restart the red LED flashes and doesnt boot. Because it was just after the full erase process completed, I'm assuming there's no OS on the phone so the BB Manager / App Loader doesn't see the 8830. The only minor hint of good news is that it is visible by windows. is there any way to force the OS back onto the phone other than through the BB software? (reading and googling suggests Javaloader.exe may be a possibility, but I don't know). any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no means of communication now when away from my computer.
Thanks!

Thanks very much for the link. Jl Cmder wasn't able to connect to the device, but there was a subsection of instructions on using apploader from the command line (/nojvm mode) which so far is moving it in the right direction. got a couple "507" errors as required. the only challenge I'm having is that the apploader is getting stuck during the load java applications part of the process (1/3rd the way through 1st time, 2/3rd way through last time, hopefully 3rd time's the charm). not sure why this is happening or if this is a common issue

Try a different USB port and make sure it is NOT going through a hub.

Good luck....

I think it is a USB issue.... I'll admit I'm a Mac user doing this through virtualization (Parallels). eventually just got it done, although not all my apps came back in the restore. darn happy to have a working unit though!!!!
thanks for the help!

I'm also a mac user and have both parallels and boot camp installed on my system (parallels and boot camp both boot off my windows partition).

I've never been able to get desktop manager to even see my device while running windows in parallels. However, it works perfect while booted solely in windows via bootcamp (hold down option at boot, etc).

I have a suspicion parallels is causing your issue.
