Default Task Application Restore - I'M STUMPED!

Please Login to Remove!

Okay, this one kept me up all night...

I use the To Do Matrix app so I removed and deleted the Tasks application from the handheld and the Desktop Software.

I just purchased BB Smart Email Viewer and it requires the Task application to be on the handheld to function.

I have tried everything I can think of...repairing the handheld software, repairing the Desktop software.

I can't seem to get the Task application to show back up in my apps so I can put it on the handheld.

Please help!

First you need to have your device's OS installed on your PC. Then you connect via Desktop Manager, run Application Loader and should be able to check the box to reinstall Tasks. Should be that easy

Is that what you're already doing?

That is exactly what I am doing.

I deleted Tasks from the Application loader to clean it up.

I can't get it back.

Does it allow you to check it when you go thru the App Loader steps?

Then I'd recommend rerunning the installation of the OS software on your PC.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Done it but it doesn't work. Task app is still missing.

Wink Wipe BB

Wipe the device, go to options, security options, general settings, menu key, wipe device. Then re-sync your device.

That didn't work either.

I am deleting the OS and reinstalling.

Hopefully this will work.

Sheesh.

Is the icon hidden? Do a "Show All" and see if it is there.

Not the issue...the task application is not available on the desktop apps. I can't reinstall it because it is no longer there.

Okay, I finally tried removing the OS and reinstalling in a different folder hoping for a fresh install...STILL didn't work.

Somehow I can't figure this out.

Any other ideas?

Here's what you need to do. Connect your device. Then run DM and Application Loader. Use the "Add" button and browse to the folder where your OS is. It should be C:/program files/common files/research in motion/Shared/Loader Files/8800-v<your OS version>

Select the Tasks-Java.alx file. That should add it back to your Application Loader.

That folder gets installed when the OS package gets installed. If you don't have it then reinstall the OS package (not Desktop Manager.)

Ok...I reinstalled the OS and the folder and files reappeared.

When I reinstall the Tasks-Java.alx file, it tells me that "no additional applications were found for the device."

The Task app is still not there.

Other ideas?

Stop Desktop Manager
Locate and erase VENDOR.XML from your PC C: drive.
Restart Desktop Manager

Inside the JAVA folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8800-v4.2.1.108_P2.3.0.85\Java

do you have this

net_rim_bb_task_app.cod
