Default Questions regarding BB8830 on Verizon

Please Login to Remove!

I have recently made the switch from a Palm Treo 700wx to the BB8830 on Verizon. I am attempting to learn the unit as I am the IT guy at the company that I work and our owner is begining to travel throughout the world on a regular basis. He currently has a Motorola Q (Verizon)and that doesn't work worldwide. We are attempting to find a device that will work which the BB8830 from Verizon is stated as though it will. Although I am somewhat disappointed with regards to the GPS feature being disabled it doesn't really bother me as I have one installed in my Durango which works great. I purchased this phone on e-bay due to th eoutrageous $$ Verizon wanted seeing as though my contract wasn't up as of yet. You'd think that they would bend the rules for a loyal customer (early 90's) Anyways the reason for this post is questions of which I will list below. Any input with regards to my questions would be greatly appreciated.

1. Is there a way to increase what is displayed on the home screen
- Messages (with total amount)
- Calendar (upcoming appointments but can only see whatever info will
fit onto that single line
- Call Log nothing shows
- Applications nothing shows.
2. When you click on the Application button and all of your icons show up is
there a way to change the icons for say different e-mail addresses that I
have set up.
3. When I occasionally change my Profile from Vibrate (used 95%) of the time
to Loud (I know that there is a problem with ringer volume) but my phone
vibrates twice and then rings twice (inaudible) and then vibrates twice
again before going to voice mail. Is there a way to change this?
4. Speaking of Voice Mail I was under the understanding that if you pushed
the 1/W key and held it would take you to your voice mail. Mine won't.
5. I have to call in periodically to my voice mail @ work and used to be able
to insert pauses and then automatic numbers that would dial after a
certain amount of time freeing me from having to push on Blackberry.
Is there a way to accomplish this.
6. Speaking of Speed Dial is there a quick way to add a Contact or phone
number to a speed dial button or to see the current list of them?
7. I'm in the market for a holster style clip for the Blackberry and was
wondering which ones were recommended. I also plan to either get a
rubberized skin and or one of those Ultimate Skins. Feedback please.

Like I said I've made the drastic switch from Palm TREO700wx to BB8830 so i'm experiencing some PDA shock. Still can not remember that there is no touch screen with stylus.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and sorry such a long post.

You might want to consider changing the theme you are using.

Go to Options and select theme

This will change the view you have from the main screen. I like the BB Dimension Today. It will show more of the calendat on the home screen. You can only display message counts for the unread messages, not total messages. The call log will only show missed calls on the home screen.
As for the ringer Vibrations, select profiles from the main screen then scroll all the way down to where it says advanced. Select any of the profiles, you can customize options there.
Voice mail, you need to be on the phone screen press the menu key, scroll to options and then voice mail, you can put your voice mail and password in there. if it is already there , you need to go back to the phone screen press menu key view speed dial list and input the number. Not sure why it is not already set though

As for the pauses when you enter the number in the address book, press the menu key and add the pause or wait

The best holster would be a direct purchase from BlackBerry's website. They have a magnet in them that puts the device into standby and makes the battery last even longer

Hope that helps some. I might also suggest going to the BlackBerry website and downloading the tips and tricks for your device.
