I have the 8830, I cannot get the desktop software to recognize the connection. It will recognize the connection for a few second when I plug in the USB but then dissappears.

I have uninstalled and installed the desktop software (3 different versions) several times now, I have cleaned the registry several times. Nothing seems to work.

I CAN get my laptop to recognize the phone and Synchronize, but I need to sync with my work computer.

I am running windows XP Pro
and desktop software 4.3

I am extremely frustrated after having spent 3 days working on this issue!

Have you tried this:

Right Click on My Computer
Select Properties
Click on the Hardware Tab
Click Device Manager
Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Do the following for each instance of USB Root Hub:

Right click on USB Root Hub
Select Properties
Click on the Power Management Tab
Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

It's worth a shot.

I have checked the power settings in ths USB hub. nothing was checked.

After days of messing with my BB 8830

I found the fix.

I had to do a manual windows update. I have always done the Windows Express updates. There are some updates that need to be requested manually.
