Angry Watch out friends...

Had to dig my 8700g out of the cellar, the charger slot on the 8800 just decided that it wanted to "break" on me. Called TMo and of course, warranty and all that good stuff has passed, and I had been having slow down issues and whatnot with the device - so I decided against replacing the device and will probably move on to bigger and better things when Santa comes rolling around in a few weeks.

So be careful when plugging in your 8800, and keep it in a nuetral climate, as the slot is brittle if you charge (or try to) often. If you still have you rubber plugger that comes in the charger slot, keep it!!!

Well all BBs use same charging port currently.

What are you gonna do with old 8800

I have the device insurance and have used it before to good effect. It is also a deductible for me so why not buy it? Still stinks to lose a good BB like that though. I am sorry for your loss. Most cell phones these days don't really seem to want to last two years. Shame.

If you have insurance use it. You would get a replacement for what? $50? and it should not lengthen your contract so if you do decide to get a new BB you will still have that refurbed one as a spare.

a number of users here have repaired the USB port with a simple soldering fix. Some have even had local electronics repair do the soldering.

Have fixed a few myself for customers for a reasonable price

I hear ya but I qualify for an upgrade anyway, and I like TMo's service (in my area) and wont be going anyplace. I thought about getting it fixed, but then thought what the hell its xmas and Daddy deserves a new toy!

I understand, it's just that I had a similar experience lately with my wifes cell phone (LG Chocolate, she won't get a BB), she was up for renewal and the phone was acting up, so I exchanged the phone first then got her a new Juke and renewed. Now I have a new (refurbed) Chocolate as a spare for when she breaks the Juke.

This I will definetly take you up on, getting a "backup device". I had a old 7290 in the basement and some family came up for Thanksgiving a couple of weeks back and they were going through my stuff as family does, saw it and they wanted it. So not knowing that my 8800 was about to meet its maker, and the space that I could gain from getting it out of my house, I gave it away.

I know its a 7290, but damn I missed that device this past weekend when my 8800 went belly up It was a slow death for my poor8800, with a barrage of emails coming in, reminders going off left and right from my todoMatrix, SMS messages coming in, I just sat and watched the 8800 over the course of the last few days slowly drain away until the device decided to shut itself off for the last time. It was sad , it was like losing family, but oh well life goes on haha. Heck, by the time the 8800 finally croaked (took forever), I had my trusty 8700 on standby ready for a sim swap and I was off to the races once again

(For those here reading this reply without a sense of humor, just move onto the next thread)

I keep my last BB (7100i) in the box for exactly the same reason. Backup!
