Hello everyone, glad I can be part of this community!

If I have posted this in the wrong place can somebody please shine some light on where it should be?

Yesterday, I picked up a BlackBerry 7250. It came with nothing except the unit, no battery, no USB cable. When I got home I got out a USB cable and plugged it in. The red light on the top turned on solid, I've been meaning to ask; is this normal?

The unit would not power on, the light would remain on, keep in mind this unit doesnt have a battery, is this normal as well?

I then noticed Windows didnt recognise the device so I downloaded the desktop management software, once installed the BlackBerry screen showed a small black battery icon with a slash over it in the top right corner. After a fair bit of research I went to try to reinstall the OS since it looked like an old version, I went through the whole "C:\program files.. etc.. loader.exe" bit and had to do a trick to get the software to recognise the USB device, I went through the steps and went to install the software on the BB. It said removing files, then copying system files. Then I heard the Windows XP USB device removal sound and the installer said it failed to continue during a multi task install.

I unplugged and plugged back in the BB and suddenly the black battery icon was gone and a new fullscreen color battery with a red slash showed up on the middle of the screen. I tried the whole OS reinstall thing again but it failed at the same point.

If I get a battery will the unit turn on or will I still have issues, meaning I have a defective unit?

Any help is appreciated!
Thank you!!

Hard to tell until you get a battery. The device will not work plugged in without a battery.
