Default verizon.net email slow

Why is it that verizonwireless has not made verizon.net email addresses instant push like yahoo and gmail? I have to wait 15 minutes just like any other pop3 email account. Does anyone know if this is going to change soon? My comcast address was a 15 minute type too, but I could forward ~a copy~ to the blackberry address which I can't do with verizon.net.

Can't really say what is going on. Perhaps Verizon or RIM changed something. If you really have to have your email that quickly, why not forward the comcast account to gmail? Seems to me to be the better solution.

You really shouldn't be using the Verizon email address. You don't control it and it could change at any time. You can't take it with you if you change carriers and it will be gone as soon as you cancel your account. The only way to read the email sent to that account is via the BB, so if ther eis an outage, you are SOL. And finally, you are opening yourself up to tons of SPAM as it is an unfiltered account.

I guess I didn't describe my situation well enough. I just switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS for my TV and internet. Therefore I now have a verizon.net email address to use, and my Comcast one is going to disappear as soon as I cancel that account. Of course these email addresses are personal addresses, but it's still nice to get the email immediately. I had set my Comcast one to forward a copy of the email to the vzw.blackberry.net address and it works great and I still get the email on Outlook. But I won't be able to do that with my verizon.net address because there is no option to forward a copy. I thought that since verizon and verizonwireless are more closely involved than say yahoo and rim, that they would have an instant push solution.

1- Don't use a specific carrier email address. Get a Gmail or Yahoo account which will never change if you move or change your cable/dsl service. That will solve your problem, instant push and you never have to change the address to all your contacts again.

Unfortunatly, I have the same issue with my verizon.net account. I am thinking of transferring my verizon email to gmail which is near instant that you receive emails. Further, verizon for me is awful with letting spam through its servers, just another reason for me to start switching accounts. Dubdub brought up a good point that if you switch carriers like you are doing now, you have to switch everything. I switched from comcast to verizon as well.

I had actually switched most of my personal email (bills etc.) to my yahoo address a long time ago since I was Adelphia and then became Comcast. But I do like to use the isp address as well - email from yahoo sometimes is mistaken for spam by the recipients.

OK, I think I figured out a workaround to this.

I have a verizon.net account that I am loathe to give up. I just got a new BB and it was driving me crazy how slow the email was -- 15 minutes in some cases. Not acceptable. Neither Verizon Wireless nor Verizon DSL could help.

So...

I opened a gmail account. Then, I set up the gmail account to download to my desktop mail program.

I then set my verizon.net mail to forward to the gmail account.

Then I set the gmail account up on the BB.

So far, I seem to be receiving everything in a timely fashion-- within two or three minutes, instead of the 15 I was experiencing with verizon.net

Can anyone see anything wrong with this, aside from the whole Rube Goldberg nature of it?

mbl, the 15 minute email push cycle on POP accounts is normal, that is how BIS works. Neither Verizon Wireless nor Verizon DSL could make any change in that.

That is the norm on routine POP accounts with RIM push email... checks for mail every 15 minutes, if there IS mail, it checks again for new mail in two minutes. If none, back to 15.

GMail and Yahoo and a few others have different arrangements and will push instantly.

Still though, your setup is fine, go with it. GMail has it's slowdowns at times, but you will be in good shape. You can set your REPLY TO address to the verizon account at your BIS website.
