I have, on several occasions, thought there was something wrong with my new Blackberry, only to find out it's a feature. Really! In the end I was happy to learn of the feature. So, I don't want to return a unit when there's nothing wrong with it.

I recently read where someone asked if the two buttons on either side of the trackball were to light up as the others (apparently not). Well, this is a similar lighting question, but regarding the Trackball itself.

There appears to be a white ring surrounding the Trackball, and then a silver trim ring around that. On the lower right side of this white ring, there is a glint of light leaking from an area at the edge of the ring (between the white ring and the silver ring). I am wondering if this is just the way it's assembled. It's not a large light leak but a glint, but I am being extra observant within my 30 days of warranty. This is an area that needs to be sealed well.

The Trackball will also move a tiny bit to the left, releasing light (if I push it carefully and gently to the left).

I want to know if this is normal.

Very normal. It's just an led under the trackball that lights it up. The led is in the lower right corner of the trackball. It's fine.

That's great news. I have developed such high regard for Blackberry, that I didn't want to return the unit if there was nothing wrong with it.

While I'm at it, I had wondered about something else that I had, at the time, considered possibly related to the "light leak".

When the Blackberry is connected to the USB cable and the computer, and the trackball is moved around, there is occasionally (rarely) a "pop" sound that seems to come from the area of the trackball. This is not repeatable, and happens seldom, but has occurred several times. I had wondered if what I was hearing was the USB cable slapping the computer, or possibly static from the cable and the moving trackball.

It's a hard thing to describe, but it is not a normal use sound, and occurs only when plugged in via USB. It happens so seldom and so quickly, that I'm hard pressed to know what I'm hearing.

Has anyone experienced this?

Static discharge or pc inducing rfi interference maybe your hearing the hdd activity through the bb. In all I would not worry about it.
