I've had my Hotmail account for 7 years. I have a friend who gets her Hotmail emails directly to her BB, but I am getting an error message that says I need to type the information in correctly (which I am) or contact my email provider (which is next to impossible with Hotmail). What am I doing wrong? I know it's possible to get Hotmail to the BB, so why isn't it working for me?

It is not posssible to get ALL Hotmail accounts pushed to a BB. Some were grandfathered in, but Microsoft has required most to upgrade to Hotmail plus.

Honestly, you may want to upgrade the Hotmail to Hotmail Plus. Or get a Gmail account and forward Hotmail to Gmail.

And I just found out that my friend who gets her Hotmail emails pushed to her BB has only had Hotmail for 4 years!! So how could she be grandfathered in and not me? (And she has the free version of Hotmail as well!)!!!

Are you trying to do this from your PC or from the BlackBerry? Either way, did you try deleting all cookies and clearing the browser cache?

Both - it doesn't work either way. I called Verizon and the person I spoke with said that Hotmail doesn't allow their emails to be pushed to a BB. But a friend of mine also has free Hotmail and hers get pushed. The same Verizon woman told me that Yahoo doesn't allow their free email service to get pushed to a BB but they do b/c I just tried it. So is it just impossible to push free hotmail to the BB?

Well, since MS left it a mystery, who knows why. Your friend could have had the account set in BB a while ago before the ban.

Yahoo works fine. Gmail works fine.

I believe the phone number may only be available to paying Hotmail Plus users. Who knows.

Truthfully, you're going to have a lot of frustration with hotmail unless you 1. pay the token yearly fee for Hotmail Plus, or 2. dump hotmail for one of the free alternatives that allow features like pop. imap, fowarding on free acccounts. So take that under advisement (do with it what you want).

Like you've noted, there is a bit of inconsistencies with pop support on the free hotmail accounts (regardless of age), and there is a lot of misinformation floating around.

Free Hotmail is pushed to my BB, and I'm pretty sure I've had my account for less than 7 years. Free Yahoo works for me too. I don't mean to rub salt in your wounds, but it doesn't seem like there's much consistency in this area.

What's weird is that I really don't use my Hotmail and Yahoo accounts; my primaries are a GoDaddy-hosted email account, my home ISP mail, and GMail.

For Blackberry integration, GoDaddy is pretty sweet :D

I can pretty much confirm its a microsoft issue. About 2 months ago i got a verizon 8703 bb and was successfull in setting up my hotmail account on it.
This past week i was issued a tmobile 8700g and i set up the same email accounts on it with the exception of hotmail. I keep getting an error. Unfortunately i wiped my verizon unit, so i went back for grins and tried to add my hotmail to it. Since i know it worked on there. IT wont let me add it to that one either. So aparently they made some sort of change on the way blackberry units can access hotmail accounts with in the last few months.
I am in the process of updating my info with other services to have my emails sent to yahoo or gmail.

I also had a subscription to the hotmail plus, but since its not working like i want i am going to cancel this as well.

I have the Yahoo Premium, $20.00 a year and it works great everything is pretty much instant....

The instantaneous push, mainly, and that messages are marked as read in both directions. Also, messages are deleted on the BB once they're deleted from the server (not as immediate).

Some folks just get lucky with Hotmail it seems. Some carriers have had understandings with certain email providers so their customers could POP their mail without the premium account. I forget who got which. It seems like some email providers got tired of the complaints (Yahoo!) and just opened it up to everyone. But if you're waiting for Microsoft to be nice, you have a long wait ahead of you.
