Hello,

i am new here and new to BlackBerry as well. I just bought an unlocked gsm blackberry off eBay and it's great. I was dissapointed to find that it had no games on it and i didn't have access to the browser because of the fact that i dont have a data plan. But i was wondering if it would still be possible to somehow get games and maybe ringtones and pictures put on the BB without having a data plan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and also, if anyone has any useful tips or advice for me regarding my 7290, blackberry or anything else, PLEASE let me know, any help would be immensely useful and beneficial to me. Also, if there are any applications or updates that i could have on my BlackBerry please let me know.

With a 7290, you're starting out with very limited options compared to the newer devices, even if you did have a data plan.
A 7290 without a data plan... there's hardly anything you can do.

The best advice I can offer is for you to sell the 7290 on eBay, and save your pennies for a newer device.

Save and get atleast the a8700. Check craigslst. Bb pearls are on there consistantly for about 100 bucks! Also try the buy sell trade section here on BBF

The 7290 does have one game on it. As suggested above, the newer models have more "stuff" but to be fully functional you need a data plan. Without a data plan you have a cell phone with a lot of buttons.
you can go to one of the software upgrade location on this site and bring it up to the latest level for the 7290. I also have seen a mention of free games available on other sites. Do a search of this site and you will find plenty of information

would it be possible to install a game or application onto my pc, then somehow put it into my blackberry backup file on my pc, then restore my blackberry and have the game / app. on there ?

any help ?

I too bought a used 7290 - The "shareware games" usually are nagware and require you to buy something - albeit cheap to be useable - ditto for the utilities. I planned to use it as a "world phone" and a PDA - for a PDA what i paid for it was wellworth the price. Just bought used 8700 because I think it will do more for me

There are ways to convert Jad/Jar files to ALX files to install over the desktop manager software. Just read the FAQ here.
