| Would this work? Please Login to Remove! hey guys,
My Mom has a BlackBerry 8700C for work. I just bought an 8700C as well, and had a question.
My Moms plan for work has the BB data plan, so it has the Browser and all that. My question is, can I put her sim card into my phone, use the browser to download Opera Mini and other apps, then put my sim into the phone and use the apps? Would this have any effects on my Mom's phone or SIM? it being her work phone I wouldn't want to do anything that would mess it up.
Thanks,
Cam

| You can load Opera on from your PC.
Service books are wiped though when you pull the battery, so it'll be no different than it is now. | | Offline

| See, that's the problem. Received my BlackBerry....in need of assistance.
I really am becoming desperate. I was hoping to get this up and going before leaving sometime tomorrow, so I wouldn't have to lug around my laptop.

| I do this all the time with my daughter's phone. She has no data plan. I just stick my sim in it and download apps and then give it back to her. Yes, you could download Opera with her sim card and then use Opera with your sim card (if you have some kind of data plan.) It won't affect her phone. | | Offline

| As Perfect Storm stated, you won't keep any of the service books that load to your device from her sim card, though. | | Offline

| What exactly is a service Book? I've tried looking through the FAQ's, but there is just so much information to read, lol.

| Opera Mini will load with my SIM in, but I can't access any websites.
I have a 1GB Internet plan, although it isnt BB, I heard I could still use it on a BB if I used Opera.
:(

This is what im receiving.
"Failed to connect to the internet. c03 met/ro,/devoce/c;dcio.waphttp.WAPIOE xception: null"
Dunno if anyone can make anything of that... but that's what im receiving.

| Opea Mini seems to be a hit or miss thing lately. Don't know if the new version has a bug or two, or if the carriers have done something. | | Offline

| Cam, honestly, you've been advised to do all those, in other threads, TCP settings, etc. Sometimes it just doesn't work until after a few days or at all. Without the BB Data Plan, that is just simply the fact, that it won't work perfectly. You should not expect it to.
Switch SIMs will work to get the service book for a browser temporarily, as JC described. But it doesn't mean the browser and OM will continue to work perfectly, or at all, afterwards.
Also, you really need to read through the FAQs and educate yourself. BlackBerry Glossary - BlackBerryFAQ
i wish you good luck with it, and Happy Holidays! | | Offline

| I'm sorry.... I was attempting to take the lazy way out, and should have done my own research and attempted to figure it out before asking so many questions.
Thanks for the help, it's been much appreciated, and I will try and look these things up myself.
Thanks,
Cam

Thanks,
Cam | Cam--no one is telling you go look these things up yourself. There is nothing to research, you've been told what to do. You can do all the research you want, but your questions have been answered.
Feel free to ask new questions AND feel free to check the FAQs and other posts for similar issues that you are having.

| Just thought I'd update this thread in case anyone in the future comes across the same problems as I did.
I gave up on trying to get internet access on my BlackBerry for awhile, then today I decided I'd have another go. I tried a few different APN settings I found on Google (thinking one or the other may be outdated.), but came up with the same results of not being able to access any web pages. I went into the Opera Mini browser, went to settings and changed the Network Protocol from HTTP to Socket, and tried it again, and it worked!
So if your having difficulties getting the browser to work (on a generic data plan like I have.) try changing your Protocol.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.
