Default Blackberry 8830 button pressing causing screen distortion?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Verizon branded 8830 WE. Every time I press the trackball button or the menu button, the button press appears to cause the casing to press against the screen, which causes a distortion. It is the same effect that you notice if you press against an LCD screen. This is pretty annoying. The case should be designed so that a simple button press does not push against the screen!

Does anyone else notice this?

Does anyone think I could fix this by replacing the casing with a nice black casing from the CNN store?

I have noticed the exact same thing with my Verizon 8830. I'm very interested to know if this is a normal occurence with the 8800 line.

Doesn't happen to me at all. When you press on the trackball or keys on either side, do you notice any keyboard flex? Mine feels like there's definitely some kind of metal frame under there that doesn't flex at all.

This is a common with the 8800 line of blackberrys. Do you see a ripple like a pebble dropped into water? What your seeing is the pressure your fingers are putting against the back of the screen through the back of the device. If you see it again, notice where you fingers are behind the device when you are pushing the trackball, or some of the keys. Won't hurt anything.

Screen distortion happens for me no matter where my fingers are placed. Must be trackball and back button putting pressure on LCD.

Wirelessly posted (8830: Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.0.10031/209; U; en))

I don't get this effect. I would get it replaced.

My 8830 does it. It is a bit concerning, but I'll cross that bridge once it collapses.

Never had this happen to my screen. Does this mean I am less manly than you guys? Maybe I am being to gentle with my phone. That's it, time to start slapping my BB around!

Same here. I took the phone back to Verizon and the tech said this was normal. Should I take it back to another store and insist on a replacement? The unit was purchased in October.

This happens with my Blackberry all the time. I think its pretty normal. I too took mine to the local Verizon store and was told that it was normal. I also noticed that the two display units that they had do it as well. I am curious to know if those who claim to not have this problem have Canadian manufactured Blackberries or Mexican manufactured units.

mine says made in Canada under the battery - no flex whatsoever, no distortion on the screen no matter how hard I press the trackball or the buttons on either side.

I would call vzw customer service and complain until they send you a new one. I don't think that should be normal.

It's really not that big of a deal, I rarely see it (More so on white or black screens) ... The device functions fine ... I had a Motorola Q before that demonstrated similar behavior.

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess it's just good to know that there are others out there who have a phone with the same problem. I'll have to decide soon whether it's worth fighting with Verizon for a replacement.
