Default Calendar Invite Problem

Please Login to Remove!

An unusual problem cropped up for me concerning calendar/meeting invites. I did a search and most similar topics concerned from-addresses, etc. but nothing specifically like my problem.

A month or so ago, things were working fine: I could set up a meeting, invite attendees; they'd get a meeting invite (in Outlook) and they had an option to accept, decline, etc. It'd add it to their calendar and all was fine.

Now, they get an email message instead. It's hard to describe the email, but it looks like the encoded header section of an email with stuff like return-path, received, from, subject, to, reply-to, message-id, and a section at the bottom that looks like:

BEGIN:VCALENDAR
VERSION: 2.0
PRODID://RESEARCH IN MOTION//BIS 3.0
METHOD: REQUEST
BEGIN: VEVENT
[rest snipped]

The attendees then complain that they can't accept or do anything with it, although if they squint real hard at the email, they can figure out enough to manually add my calendar event in.

I am on BIS (as the section above suggests), and again, everything worked fine a month ago.

Now, I have seen something similar before, if I invite an attendee that is on Lotus Notes (v5?), but I have never had it reported or seen this in Outlook before. I run Lotus Notes at work but am NOT on BES and Outlook 2003 at home; I had run tests to myself at work to see it is all. But when I get my own copy of the invite back on my home ISP, I see what the calendar invite is supposed to look like. And the invites looked fine, until recently when it changed to this... email looking format.

What has changed? Nothing that directly affects the calendar that I know of. I upgraded Pocket Day Pro to v5.18, I switch back and forth between BB Smart Viewer and EMV Pro 3; these seem to be the only things that could possibly touch the calendar in any way but I could be wrong.

Anyone else run into this?

Anything change with your service books?

I am not a Lotus Notes expert, but I make sure i am running default cical account.

Look at Options - service books and delete all cical accounts, except the one you will choose to use.

I did do a service book resend before posting but I didn't look to delete extras. Although there didn't seem to be duplicates left over from discontinued email accounts that I saw.

The Lotus Notes thing doesn't bother me, but the Outlook one does. In looking at my Sent Folder (in Outlook, where I get a copy of my BB's meeting invites using rules), I see that on Dec 12th, invites were working normally (calendar looking icons for the email carrying the invites), yet yesterday... the invites now look like normal emails, with text as described in my initial post, instead of the Accept, Tenative, Decline, etc. buttons.

I'm puzzled by it.

I noticed that Rogers pushed out an update last week... I had a couple of issues after the update but rebooting seemed to help.

Hmmm... I have done several soft reboots, warm reboots, partial database restores, service book deletions and resends; and culminated last night with a full jl_cmdr wipe and reload... which I am still recovering from, heh.

I've done a few test invites but have to wait till I get home to see if they work or not. I did notice that on Lotus Notes, I can 'Copy into New Calendar Entry', something I never noticed before; however that's somewhat irrelevant as I am more interested in the Outlook part of it.

The timing of Rogers' update seems right though, as it's between the point where it worked and where it now doesn't. Although after the reload I'll have restored/reinstalled almost everything I had on the BB before, so pretty much if it doesn't work now I'll have to suspect that -- although it's hard to rule out a 3rd party app.

Thanks for the input thus far everyone.

I am having the same issue when I send invites from my BB to others on outlook. But it works perfectly when I send it from Outlook, it sync's to the BB's without a problem.

Computer to BB = "A" Okay

BB to Computer = No Bueno
