Default telus version compatible with verizon network?

hello, I am new to the blackberry world and had a general question. I had a friend offer me a 8830 world edition phone, but it is a telus version. Is it compatible with the verizon network as he says it is, or not? Am curious as to I dont want to get stuck with something i cant use, thanks.

Verizon does not allow outside devices on their network. I would definitely find out BEFORE if they will allow it on their network.
