I would do a backup. If your convinced it is one of the contacts you may be out of luck on this unit. The other thing is that if you have a contract with AT&T they are providing 8310's refurbs for cheap now. Or, if your on another vendors plan, the 8700 can be had for usually cheap now if it is a referb since the end of life on this unit is near.
The reason I suggested the backup is you could reload your OS. This is another troubleshooting item you can do. Of course, backup your device first and reload a newer OS that you can download from your vendor. Import your data back and see if this resolves the issue.
Or, try another battery first before wiping the unit.
