Default 8700c Shutting Off Randomly

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have recently been experiencing some problems with my 8700 randomly turning off. Once it turns off I have to remove the battery and replace it to get to power on. However, recently that has not been working and it is taking multiple attempts to get it to restart. I read the earlier posts regarding this and tried cleaning the contacts but it seems clear to me that it is some kind of contact problem. As I place the battery in the LED turns on only in certain positions, making it clear that somewhere there is a contact problem. Any suggestions on how to rectify this problem? I am planning on opening it up and checking but if anyone has had the same problem and knows a trick please let me know.

Thanks

Most vendors allow a 1 yr. warranty providing the moisture decals are not showing red. Is the phone over a yr. old?

Yeah it is over one year old. My dad was using it before he gave it to me when he got his curve.

Hi...

I would do a backup. If your convinced it is one of the contacts you may be out of luck on this unit. The other thing is that if you have a contract with AT&T they are providing 8310's refurbs for cheap now. Or, if your on another vendors plan, the 8700 can be had for usually cheap now if it is a referb since the end of life on this unit is near.

The reason I suggested the backup is you could reload your OS. This is another troubleshooting item you can do. Of course, backup your device first and reload a newer OS that you can download from your vendor. Import your data back and see if this resolves the issue.

Or, try another battery first before wiping the unit.

Good Luck...

H.

I am having the same problem.

Unfortunately, I was told that mine suffered water damage since the moisture decals are showing red. I am still under contract but its now void because of the damage. I'm not due for an upgrade until July 2008.

I haven't dropped it in water, but have used it while walking in the rain. Its stays mostly in my bag during commute or on my desk in the holder at work.

I'm going to call AT&T again tonight and see what they can do. I can't wait until July to get another one without paying retail.

I handle the majority of our blackberry's for a major corporation and often do ESN changes (calling our service provider of course), but I also have done a fair amount of exchanges. I have had people return the 8703e's and the earlier models but those are out of warranty. Usually our 8703e's are still under warranty although they are going to be expiring within the next couple of months.

Anyways, I have gotten a handful of 8703e's given to me where the white indicator, once you have removed the battery case has turned red. Each time I get one back from a user where they state it randomly restarts we try 3 things - different batteries in the device, make sure the latest version of the firmware is loaded and if that does not work then I call them up and if it is under warranty then I go through the exchange process and get a replacement next day air. I have yet to get one back that I sent to them stating they found water damage. So, when they ask you if it has been exposed to any water - simply say "doesn't look like it".

Thanks for all your input. The past couple days it has been pretty stable, I have yet to open it up totally to see if anything is loose inside. Quick aside question, my "1" key no longer goes to vmail, do I have to assign it in speed dial, because I thought it is permanently attached to vmail unless changed. Could it be caused by using a different sim card recently?

I'm having the same problem with the powering off after radio activity. Just wanted to ping the thread to see if anyone else has come up with any new information. I was also wondering if anyone thought the internal "cmos" battery has anything to do with this problem.
