Default BlackBerry Messenger on 7100t?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, has anyone gotten the BlackBerry Messenger from the 4.0.2.32 firmware on their 7100t's? The 7100g from Cingular, using the TMobile 4.0.2.32 firmware seems to have gotten this app, but not the 7100t's.

Same goes for the 7290's, reports say that Cingular 7290's get it, while I haven't found any TMobile 7290's to get this.

rsun, its still an automatic OTA download of the 3.8 version. they have updated the downloadable version for the 7290, although it has a warning on the download page now stating that it may experience issues on models other than the 7290.

I don't think we are talking about the exact same thing. BlackBerry Messenger is the application for PIN's from BlackBerry to BlackBerry.

The download that TMobile has for the 7290 is the Instant Messenging Client for AOL, etc.

On a side note, I did get it to install by creating my own .alx file:

<loader version="1.0.84">
<application id="BlackBerry Messenger">
<name>
BlackBerry Messenger
</name>
<description >
</description>
<version >
0.1
</version>
<fileset Java="1.0">
<files>
net_rim_bb_smileys_default.cod
net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
</files>
</fileset>
</application>
</loader>

Default Yes it works on 7100t

You can get the messenger on a 7100t and Cingular 7290 (T-Mobile unsure of), but I haven't been able to get it to load throught the AppLoader, you have to use the javaloader file that is included with Blackberry Developers Tools....

Here's how you do it:

You need these files:
net_rim_bb_smileys_default
net_rim_bb_qm_peer
net_rim_bb_peer_resournce_en

Located in Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7290-v4.0.2.32_P1.8.0.137\Java

Copy those files to a directory that has only those three files and the javaloader.exe file located in it..

Pull up DOS and run this command:

javaloader -usb load *.cod

That will install the Messenger files to the device, it will reset and messenger will appear!

Take your 3 files and put them in the Java directory. Open notepad and copy the below code to it and save as Messenger.alx and save it in the 7100-whatever directory (parent directory of the Java folder).

Code:
<loader version="1.0">
<application id="BlackBerry Messenger">
    <name>BlackBerry Messenger</name>
    <version>1.0.84</version>
    <vendor>Research In Motion</vendor>
    <copyright>Copyright 1998-2004 Research In Motion</copyright>

    <fileset Java="1.0">
	<directory>Java</directory>
	<files>
	    net_rim_bb_smileys_default.cod
	    net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
	    net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
	</files>
    </fileset>
</application>
</loader>
Open up Application Loader and it should prompt you to install if its not there.

rsun, I kind of modified your ALX file slightly to fall in line with the directory structure of the default RIM OS installation.

Also, from the other thread, the reason why these do not install on the 7100t is because they have specified vendor IDs within the installation. Instead of making the ALX file, you can simply open up BlackBerry.alx and edit these lines:

Code:
            <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="~100|114|115|118|120|122|123|124|129|130|132|133|134|136|137|138|139|140|143|148|152|153|161|166|167|168|169|170|171|176|188|192|193|194|195|196|197|198|199|200|201|202">
                <files>
                    net_rim_bb_smileys_default.cod
                    net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
                </files>
            </fileset>

            <fileset SystemSize="normal" Java="1.0" _vendorID="~100|114|115|118|120|122|123|124|129|130|132|133|134|136|137|138|139|140|143|148|152|153|161|166|167|168|169|170|171|176|188|192|193|194|195|196|197|198|199|200|201|202">
                <files>
                    net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
                </files>
            </fileset>
Remove ~ from the _vendorID part in each of the two above.

It appears that TMO is the only vendor who is not taking part in the beta. Go figure.

It is working like a charm on my T-Mo 7290.... Here is what I did:

I took these files (copy)
net_rim_bb_smileys_default.cod
net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod

I moved them to my c:/ directory where javaloader is installed...

I went into javaloader and typed the following:
javaloader -usb load net_rim_bb_smileys_default.cod
javaloader -usb load net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
javaloader -usb load net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod

Works like a champ.. Very cool little app....

Feel free to PIN me if you want to play with it...

camerch, read my last reply. Just edit your BlackBerry.alx file.

To add, another option that is disabled for T-Mobile phones is the TTY support for the phone (Mark, you may want to take note of this and request an explanation).

Inside Phone.alx, it is listed as:

Code:
                <fileset radio="GPRS" Java="1.0" _vendorID="~100">
                        <files>
                            net_rim_phone_tty_enabler.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
Short of the 120 and 125 themes (not sure what these are for), those are the only things not loaded that are installed on the PC.

Well I actually prefer to keep it seperated from the core elements, just seems better as an add-on and good for testing w/ other devices and platforms.

Okay, do what I said and you will see that its not part of the core components. It basically unhides the option within Application Loader (see attachment). I also have Additional Themes listed on there which is a separate ALX I made for the additional themes that we have (O2, Vodaphone, etc). But the BlackBerry Messenger is simply displayed by removing two tildes within the main ALX for the OS.
