I'm hoping someone can assist with two questions?

1. What are the two metal 'contacts' on the left hand side of the device for? they look like some form of electrical contact but I can find no mention of them anywhere?
   
2. I'm testing some GPS apps in-car, as I use a powered cradle, is there any way to force the backlight to remain ON when connected to external power?

1. Cradle charger contacts.

2. Don't know about with external power, but some GPS apps do have backlight always on options.

2. Which GPS apps are you testing? I know BB Maps and Telenav both have settings you can change to make the backlight stay on at all times. The settings are changed from within the application itself, not the BB's global settings (options).

Currently test Trimble's suite of apps Outdoors and AllSport. AllSport doesn't need the option but Outdoors does. Also Google Maps.
