Default Blackberry Button Problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hello hello,

I just purchased a Blackberry 8800 online from an ebay dealer who looked accredited but I already have problems with the phone.

The phones unlocked from Rogers Wireless and its "Refurbished"....
At the moment, when I click on the select key with the trackball it will type the letters "LO" and when I use the back button it types the letters "UI"....

I wanna see if theres anything I can do before sending the phone back to him and waiting another week to get the replacement.

Any ideas people? Dont let me down...

Adam

-PS there is no water dmg per the sticker on the back on the device

I would suggest completing a "Wipe Handheld" through Options > Security Options to wipe and reset the device. This will reset the device and will correct any problems. If the error is not resolved, then the device will need to be sent back for replacement.

I tried to do a complete wipe several times.. but that only takes care of the ROM on the BB 8800.... does anyone know how to completly remove the OS of from the device and how to reinstall it? Detailed step by step instructors somewhere.....

Thanks

Did you try a hard reset (pull battery) yet?

If you want to try wipe and reinstall, see

and

Also, is there any evidence of water or liquid contact on the indicator?

One problem with JL Cmder, the instructions say to remove the battery than flash the device, but it always shows up with that stupid battery with a red slash through it on the BB screen and it refuses to boot up when connected to the PC w/o the battery... and doesn't flash the device...
Now I would love to flash the device with the battery in but I don't want to brick the item...because I would send it back if I cant get this too work...

What do you guys think...

**edit** also I did try to simply wipe the device, didn't work because all that does is wipe the ROM on the BB dry and clean, not the OS...
Also I did try pulling the battery about 200000000 times and still doesn't respond correctly (see the problem above)

I have not had to do this myself. I can't speak from personal experience. But from reading BBF I know loads of people have used those directions in BBFAQ successfully. My advice is follow the directions in the faq exactly and you will be ok.

Honestly, my bet is you got a flakey device. But if you want to try JL_CMDR route to be sure, give it a shot.
