Default Help: 8820 Keyboard problems

Please Login to Remove!

About 2 weeks ago, my 8820 starting having problems where the escape key actually types two letters instead of doing what it is supposed to do. When this happens, the execution of the pearl (pressing down on it) also types two different letters. This happens for 3-4 hours and then it stops. originally I thought it might be a problem with exposure to cold, but it now happens inside when I haven't been outside at all. I've tried resetting the device with no luck. Has anyone here heard of this problem? Suggestions for a remedy? As i bought the phone about 90-100 days ago, is it best to go to ATT or RIM?

Thanks,

Andrew

First, welcome to the Forums.

You'll need to talk with AT&T first.
I see that problem from time to time on here, sometimes it is related to exposure to moisture such as water or other liquid.
Sometimes it is just a keyboard fault. In your case, if there is no moisture (look at the small white square sticker inside the phone, when you remove the battery, it should be above that area about .125" square white sticker. If it is red, it has had liquid damage. The carrier should have no problems at all replacing the device.

For a reset, make sure you a doing battery pull while the power on the device is ON. Hold it for 30 seconds and replace to reboot.

Is your 8820 branded to AT&T or TMobile? Where did you buy it?

Default Thanks J.

I bought it at an ATT store. The little square is white, so it looks like simply BB on the fritz. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to head to the store at lunch and see what they suggest.

after 30 days it would be a warranty issue call 1-800-801-1101!

as JSanders suggested check the LDI (liquid damage indicator) if white make your claim. If processed early enough you could see the replacement as soon as tomorrow. They will tell you 3-5 days rarely have I seen it take more than 2
