I have a BB8830. I also use a mac. I have no trouble sync Microsoft Entourage with the BB through PocketSync.

I understand that I am not able to assign ringtones to contacts for incoming text messages. But, I did read that I can assign contacts to be delivered as "Level 1 Messages" and I can change the ringtone for Level 1 Messages.

How do I assign contact to Level 1? Remember, I am on a mac so not using any BB software. Is there a way to do this on the handheld?

you can assign SMS ringtones under profiles. Level 1 messages are anything you set under the message options to level 1. Go to profiles > advanced > select the profile you want to edit > menu > edit > scroll to SMS text > click the trackball > change the ringtone

I don't want to assign a ringtone to ALL my contacts - just specific contacts. Your suggestion would assign a ringtone to all SMS contacts.

This is done using filters. You can create a filters so messages from certain email address get delivered to the BlackBerry as a Level 1 Message.

doesnt seem to work on my 8120. Profile exceptions also do not seem to work with silent/vibrate as well.
