Default Here is the answer as to why your volume is messed up on new OS....

Please Login to Remove!

I just got off the phone with RIM....I had upgraded to the new OS 4.0.2 and my Bluetooth and speakerphone did not work.

What happens is that you upgrade the firmware and then restore old values back in which conflict with the new OS...

Here is the fix.

1. Re-Install the OS again from the Desktop manager applications

2. Then you MUST do a SELECTIVE restore NOT a full restore of your features like tasks, phone book, memos......I only put back in 6 of the 30 options. Anything that says xxx options DO NOT RESTORE!!

3. Voila your speakerphone, volume and Bluetooth is fixed.

4. Now do a backup so that you have the new values and delete, YES delete all previous backups and don't think about using them again.

Whew!!!!

WTF? That is ridiculous...I've always backed up and then done a full restore after an upgrade with NO issue.

I think you just had a bad update but I would hardly say people should start doing this.

I can see how this would affect a 3.8 to 4.0 upgrade, but only when upgraded. I typically do a selective backup anyhow. The best way to do this is to take a full Backup from the Backup/Restore screen then to go back and load that backup (from Advanced) and delete what you don't need.

If someone goes in and clears their options and still experiences the issues, then I think this may be 'suggestive influence leads to appropriate perception' results.

NICE quote. I'm afraid I'm going to have to steal that for a .sig. Much nicer than what I'm muttering under my breath at end users.

FYI - Can't speak for the other issues you had, but I did the upgrade without a backup and restore and still had the Bluetooth volume issue. The good news is that RIM has been able to recreate the issue themselves and engineering is now in the process of evaluating for a fix - I know that pharma1 and I can't wait for that version.

Anyhow, thanks for the idea. Glad it worked for you.

Man I hope that is true. I keep reading how RIM is having problems recreating the issue, or how they have finally recreated the issue....
I'm not seeing how hard this is to reproduce. I have written a sophisticated test suite that can be used in any high tech clean room environment.

Test Requirements:
1 Land line phone
1 7100t running 3.8 handheld code
1 7100t running 4.x handheld code
1 non-developementally disabled 8 year old child
1 Bluetooth headset paired to both devices

Test Procedures:
Hand 8 year old the 7100t running the 4.x code. Talk to child for 3 minutes.
Hand 8 year old the 7100t running the 3.8 code. Talk to child for 3 minutes.
Ask child which was louder.

FIX PROBLEM

No charge to RIM if you want to use this.

I haven't played with Bluetooth yet since I upgraded but the handset volume is definitely lower and it pisses me off.

I have to say. I am a big Blackberry evangelist. Been using one for almost 6 years now but with every new release of software they take away or change a feature that was useful. Now they LOWER the volume. It is getting old!!!

Just called RIM and he put me on hold and came back saying they are NOT aware of the issue where the headset volume is lower when going to 4.0.2.

I have an e-mail that I received from RIM on Friday afternoon that says otherwise. Since the issue was just acknowledged on Friday, maybe it's not yet in the support database that the first-line phone reps use.

That being said, it would hopefully raise the priority if everyone who had the issue would call RIM ASAP.

Sheesh! Does anyone around here say "please" or "thank you" anymore?

Anyhow, I can't share the e-mail verbatim because of the confidentiality notice attached, but the summary is basically that the issue has been escalated to development and they will decide if and when the fix happens and get back with me with any updates. I'll post any new info as soon as I get it.

By the way, you're welcome.

It was that apparent, eh? The burr is a result of way too much effort on my part to finally get RIM to do their job on a significant issue a number of us have, and essentially getting what appears to be a demand to “show me some proof in writing” as a response when I share the good news. If that wasn't your intent, then my bad and no burr.

Nonetheless, I should have left out the sarcasm as it’s generally unwarranted for the good guys, and ineffective with the a-holes. For now, I’ll assume you’re part of the first group.

No, generally in a public forum a person can make any claim in the world so it is standard protocol to back up what you say via either weblink or some kind of proof. Of course i'm old school and in the day of photoshop chops etc..???

Proof just cuts down on arguments and gives us by standers a reason to lean one way or the other.

That was one of the funniest posts I've read in a while. If you need/want to go back to 3.8 let me know if I can help.
