Default Unable to pair 8830 with MINI Cooper bluetooth hands-free system

Please Login to Remove!

I have a MINI Cooper with bluetooth and have not been able to pair my Blackberry 8830 (Verizon) successfully. Called MINI and they could not help. Two persons on MINI forum said that they were able to pair successfully, however in my case it did not work. Could someone please help?

Here is what happens. Both the devices will find each other and then ask for passwords. After I insert the same password (1111) on both devices the car says that it paired successfully but then it goes in the infinte search mode and then the blackberry asks to rediscover and gives the following message.

"Uncaught exception: java.lang.ClassCastException" and there is a dialogue box with ok as you see in the picture Unable to pair 8830 with MINI Cooper bluetooth hands-free system-bb.jpg(hopefully the pic got uploaded). When I hit ok my blackberry freezes.

Does anyone know what that message means? Do I need to get a software update? My 8830 version is 4.2.2.66 (Platform 3.0.0.45).

Hope someone out there knows what this means. Thank you in advance.

have you tried a battery pull? also, the default password on the device is 0000, have you changed it? after you pair the devices using your current method, if you cancel the search then go back into BT will it show the mini listed?

I did try the battery pull and waited for 5 mins and also tried the alt-shft-del. I cannot cancel the search as it gets frozen but after the battery pull it still lists MINI as a paired device.

I even disabled the encryption on BB under device option for MINI as the manual says to try if it does not pair. Still the same message.

Could it be a software issue? I just checked on VZW page and looks like there was an update in Nov. I did not want to upgrade as I was afraid that I might lose the BB MAPS on my BB as I am now able to use it without subscribing to VZ Navigator (just the map not the GPS).

Any ideas?

Update the F/W on your BB to the latest version and do not do a full data restore. Pair the two devices again and once you get it working, do a selective restore, only for the data you actually need on your BB. I've found that it's usually corrupt data that causes these weird issues.

Is your Address Book Transfer enabled? If not, try that.

And, as mentioned above, the default password is 0000.

a lot of times different car manufacturers only have approved devices. For example, I have a BMW and it only works with a handful of phones for bluetooth, and the 8830 just happens to NOT be one of them haha.

thats BS spread by the car manufacturer. take it to a dealership and they can "unlock" the bluetooth. bluetooth is bluetooth is bluetooth. as long as the version is supported, no reason that it wont work.

i can speak for ford, their is nothing the dealer can do, while fords cs does tests phones compatablity and update the sync site, which users can go download and update the system with a usb stick, their is no hidden lock on the ford sync system.

tho fords system from what i am hearing is expaning still and updates offer more. some phones just wont work tho, due to what carriers do to them.

I was not able to check the forum last 24hours. BTW, what is a F/W? I was trying to download the software update and was not successful. Does it give an option not restore full data?

I was able to pair the devices again using the 0000 passcode. But then the 8830 gave that same message "java>> errror". I think it pairs first and then when the MINI tries to communicate with the BB, something happens in the BB.

My wife got a motorola razr and we were able to pair the MINI with the motorola and make phone calls. Could not figure out to transfer the phone book.

I am going to get the software update tomorrow from MINI. And will try to download the BB update tonight.

Thanks everyone and will keep you posted.

I made the address book transferable but as I said after the pairing they lose each other. The MINI goes in search mode and the BB freezes.

Thank you everyone. I was finally able to pair the verizon 8830 with the MINI. I updated the OS on the BB 8830. After that it paired up and I am now able to call and use the phone book as well.

The verizon tech support was not very helpful. They probably don't have all the info on this BB yet. Everytime I called or went to their store they would give me different info each time.

Once again thanks again and special thanks to stevew.

Default Pairing you 8830 with your mini-cooper

Here's a URL to the Mini-Cooper Bluetooth installation and pairing guide. Just skip past the installation part and it provides a way to set-up the pairing using voice commands.

Note that the code is "0000" not "1111", that you mention trying.

This is my first post so I am getting an error message telling me that I'm not yet authorized to add a URL but if you go to wireles4mini (you can figure out the rest), you will find a PDF that will help you.

I have paired my 8830, but had to delete it when the first pairing did not work properly. I have also paired my wife's LG phone as well and have been able to switch between them.

What I am not able to tell you is how to connect to the built-in cable in the arm rest of the Mini.

Good luck with your pairing. Hope this is useful.

Glad you got it working but remember a MINI is a BMW.
